The first generation Camaro is one of the most desirable models of the muscle car era.  Lasting from 1967-1969, this platform continues to be the most popular (and valuable) Camaro family of all time.  This 1968 example is a great market entry point featuring lots of recent work along with its original 327ci engine, a 4-speed transmission, and a classic look that can’t be beat.

This car spent many years in Texas where it received some restoration work in the late 90’s.  That included a repaint from the original Island Teal to the present bright red.  Some rust repairs were also made at that time, primarily to the quarter panels.  The subframe mounts have also been replaced.  Aside from some small holes under the rear footwells, this is a solid car underneath.  All the correct trim is present including the 327 badges, and the 15” Rally wheels are a great look on any first generation Camaro.

Under the hood is the numbers-matching 327 ci V8.  This can be verified by the pictures which show the correct VIN and date codes.  Upgrades include and Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor.  It also has an electronic ignition and headers.  The original 3-speed manual transmission has been replaced with a 4-speed for a little more fun.  This Camaro also has a great muscle car sound through the dual exhaust.

There are many new parts throughout.  The brakes feature a new master cylinder, shoes, hoses, and wheel cylinders.  The parking brake hardware is also new.  The engine compartment has a new alternator, voltage regulator, and radiator.  Other recent work includes a front end alignment, new shackle bushings, front and rear shocks, fuel sending unit, u-joint, and more.

The black interior also has a lot of new / replacement parts.  The front bucket seats were recovered during the repaint.  The carpeting and door panels are new as are the dash vents.   All lighting works properly including the low and high beams, turn signals, backup lights, dash lights, and courtesy light.  The horn, wipers, heater / defroster, parking brake, speedometer, fuel gauge, and radio all work too.  There is also an aftermarket tachometer and a set of underdash gauges for oil pressure and water temperature.

Camaros are one of the most endearing cars of the 1960’s.  This one captures that spirit with the look and sound that put them on the map.  It is also a lot of fun to drive with the 327 and 4-speed.  While Camaro prices continue to soar, this one is a reasonably affordable way to enter the muscle car arena.
