Here's another classic car styled when the jet age was in full
swing in America, including within the American auto industry. The
Mercury space program was completing missions, and every American
wanted to be a part of the excitement that was the space race.
Fins, round afterburner inspired tail lights, metal trimmed
dashboards with round gauges, and hard edged chrome exterior trim
were just a few of the rocket or aircraft inspired styling. This
Thunderbird has all of the aforementioned styling cues, as well as
a powerful 390ci V8 under the hood. Finished in the original color
combination, and offering a highly original interior, this T-Bird
is worth taking a look at. It may not send you to outer space, but
it will give you a blast from the past. Flashy colors on personal
luxury cars like the Thunderbirds wasn't for everyone, and whoever
ordered this T-Bird kept the color combination pretty subdued.
Regardless, this car has the jet age styling, and plenty of chrome
to make it a looker. The car has been repainted at some point quite
some time ago in the original color of Silver Mink metallic. The
paint on the top areas of the car, especially the trunk lid is
faded, but is not noticeable right away thanks to the subdued
color. All trim is where it should be, and the bodylines and body
panel alignment look good. The chrome is in surprisingly good
condition, which as car collectors we all know can be a sore spot
with vintage cars. Chrome replating is expensive! The interior is
tidy, but does show age which is to be expected since it is highly
original in this 58 year old icon. Flowing dashboard styling
highlights the large center console and three large round gauges
positioned in front of the driver. Getting into the driver's seat
is made easier thanks to the Swing-Away-Steering Wheel. Power
windows, power brakes, and power steering help make the driving
experience like that of a space capsule that's settled into orbit -
smooth. Under the hood is a 300 horsepower, 390ci V8 that gets just
the right fuel mixture from the 4 barrel carburetor. A
cruise-o-matic 3 speed transmission handles gear selection. It
won't take you to the moon or other celestial bodies, but it will
spark nostalgia and give you a blast from the past. Be sure to
