Vehicle Description
1997 Jaguar XK8 Convertible
"Grace, Space, Pace" - Jaguar's advertising slogan for many decades
after it first appeared in the 1950s. Jaguar's iconic emblem and
former hood ornament is known as The Leaper. The face-on chrome
embossed emblem is known as The Grinner. Jaguar has won the 24
Hours of Lemans, the world's oldest sports car endurance race,
seven times. The first time in 1951 and the last time in 1990.
Regardless of all the facts, the most fascinating thing about
Jaguars is driving one.
For consignment, a XK8 Jaguar Convertible. This car shows an
incredible 19,409 actual miles, has had a mere 2 owners who both
lovingly cared for this car, is bathed in Cabernet Pearl Metallic
and has an excellent Connolly leather interior with abundant use of
walnut burl accenting. Decidedly British, Wilton carpeting, and a
sporty 4-Liter V8, this car uses some of the iconic Jag race car
designs with shades of the XKE in its curved body lines and low
profile.
Exterior
With its rounded aerodynamic looks and a front oval grille that
harkens back to the E-types, it now sports integrated head and
taillights, and front bumper inserted running lights. Body panels
are all straight and bathed in Cabernet Pearl Metallic paint from
the deep end of the pool. All is in scratch free and shiny
condition. A tan canvas convertible top moves up and down smoothly
and presents as near perfect. This also has a top boot, to cover it
when in the down position. Aluminum wheels emblazoned with the
"grinner" are on all 4 corners. Also on the sides is a green oval
with the "leaper" badge.
Interior
Gorgeous Parchment (tan) Connolly leather in ultra-fine condition
adorns the interior seating consisting of front buckets and a very
tight 2 plus 2 rear bench. Fronting these is a burl dash, which has
plenty of knobs and dials including climate controls, an
AM/FM/Cassette/CD, cruise control, power seats with 3 memory
positions, power mirrors, power windows and power locks. A console
mounted shift lever has the option to shift manually or just keep
it in automatic and a sport mode with a push of a toggle switch.
Dark tan/light brown Wilton carpeting for the floors and noted is
the power convertible top is in good condition interior wise.
Drivetrain
A 4.0 Liter, Electronic Fuel Injected V8 which puts out a purported
290hp is connected to a 5-speed automatic transmission (ZF-5HP24).
A 3.06 rear axle puts the power to the ground.
Undercarriage
All underneath appears slightly used with just a bit of road dirt
spattered about, very clean, no rust, and structurally secure.
Standard dual exhaust is on, no leaks seen on the bottom end of the
engine and transmission, and rockers are rust free and clean.
Independent coil springs for all the suspension, and power disc
brakes are inserted on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
An easy starter, and smooth idle with some warmup time prior to
embarking for the test track. Here it handled it splendidly, with
smooth seemingly unlimited acceleration, easy shifting, and bias
free braking. I put the top down for my cruise, and had a
thoroughly enjoyable tool throughout the Classic Auto Mall
countryside.
A good running, smooth shifting, clean used Jaguar XK8. 19,409
actual miles is yours for the taking here at Classic Auto Mall. Put
the top down and feel groovy baby! And you should, this is one cool
cat.
