For Sale: 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle in Jefferson, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle Sedan

My friend traded this car to me.  He is tall like me and doesn’t appreciate the challenge of ingress and egress from the Bug.  I can relate!  He is a careful and deliberate buyer that knows quality and value.  I was pleased to be able to purchase his car and offer it to you.

The Super Beetle upgrade was first offered in 1971.  It involved bigger brakes, better cooling, larger oil cooler and pump, and a bigger camshaft resulting in higher horsepower.  McPherson struts were added to improve the ride and handling.  These were all welcome improvements.  The Beetle became a Super Beetle.

This particular car has only been driven 76019 miles.  It came to me from Southern Indiana and I have the belief that it probably lived somewhere in the SW USA before that.  It is completely original with the exception of tires, exhaust, distributor and carburetor.  Oh, and the sound system upgrade.

There is no corrosion on this car.  Perhaps a few small areas of surface rust, but no bubbling or rot anywhere.  The original floors are perfectly solid, which is uncommon.  The Kansas Beige paint is original with exception of a few small touched up areas.  It looks wonderful and shined up nicely with a coat of wax.  The glass is original.

The Beige upholstery is also original.  The driver’s seat shows some wear, so fitted slip on seat covers have been installed.  The carpet is original, as are the door panels, dash and headliner.  There is one slight tear in the headliner.  Replacement headliner and carpet are in the trunk.

The trunk also contains a tub filled with replacement parts.  Mostly, the rubber seals and gaskets.  I believe the kit is for the entire car.  The original spare is present.  The cardboard liners are still in great condition.

The original jack is properly stored beneath the rear seat, next to the battery.  You will see just how nice the floors are when you pull up the seat.  And you will NOT see any evidence of mouse inhabitation.

The 1600cc engine starts and runs great.  A new distributor and carburetor were recently installed and that certainly helps.  The engine number is era correct.  The engine is responsive and provides impressive performance.  I can’t imagine a Bug having an automatic transmission.  Just doesn’t seem right.  Half the fun is shifting.  The four speed transmission in this car works perfectly.

We were joking about the 46 horsepower engine and how the improvements may have increased the power.  Certainly the installation of a Zoom Tube style muffler must have jacked it up a horse or two!

The tires are basically new with minimal miles on them.  The wheels are showing original paint that looks great.  The proper hubcaps are in fine condition.  The bumpers are also in great condition.

A modern stereo with remote control has been added.  Speaker boxes reside behind the rear seat.  It sounds great.  All other features work properly.  There are two sets of keys.

This is a great running, great looking original Super Beetle.  It performs at a high level.  It is definitely a car that deserves to be driven and that deserves to be on display for others to appreciate.  They are only original once
