For fifty years, from 1949 through 1999 Oldsmobile built the model
88 in ten different generations. And from 1950 through 1974 the
Model 88 was Oldsmobiles most popular and profitable vehicle. They
were a large luxury automobile that commanded presence like the
Lincolns and Cadillacs but had a much lower price point appealing
to the masses. This particular car is a 7th generation car equipped
with the Rocket V8 that put a whopping 150 HP due to federal
regulations, safety and a fuel crisis. This particular car comes
out of long-term ownership with the same family selling the black
73 hardtop that they bought new that we have listed. This car has
had a red re-paint some time ago from its original color of what we
believe to be green. The paint is old and there are many cosmetic
issues but mechanically it seems to be decent. It starts right up,
runs and drives down the road. It has been sitting for several
years so a tune up, fluid flush and overall inspection would be
recommended before a long road trip. This would make a great driver
with a little bit of work or an excellent candidate for a
restoration as it appears to be very solid with no rot or
corrosion. In fact, the body is quite strait with great lines and
good door gaps with no door sag at all. The convertible top
operates well and is in good original condition. This car is priced
accordingly knowing full well that it is not perfect.
