Vehicle Description
1985 Pontiac Grand Prix LE
Offering full-sized comfort and rear-wheel-drive prowess, this 1985
Pontiac Grand Prix was the top-of-the-line machine that continues
to have timeless appeal. These cars practically defined the '80s
with their long hood and short deck design, and it has never gone
out of style.
For consignment, a two-tone airbrushed looking paint job with some
Billet Specialty wheels and low-profile tires. We are ready to
troll this skate through the neighborhood and see what we end up
with in passengers or other scores. Garnished with a consigner
stated 400ci Chevy small block engine, and a TH350 turbo trans,
rear opera window on the B pillar, and straight rust-free steel we
are firmly in Snazzy-land in classic form.
Exterior
Square and rectangle design abounds and one would think this car
invented it. Rectangular headlights, an egg crate grille and rubber
strip adorned front bumper, a stalk mounted sprung hood ornament
just above, and blow the trumpets, you have arrived. BUT that's not
all... Let's bathe all this rust free straight paneled steel in two
tone blue with a fuzzy delineation between the two, plenty of
stainless for the wheel well surrounds and wide rocker coverings
and I'd say we're stylin'. Long doors allow access to the passenger
compartment where you can drive within the lap of luxury. Where
your back seat passengers may take the opportunity to watch the
world go by through tinted opera B pillar glass adorned with the
'Merican Flag decals. On the back is more square and rectangle
shaped metal and plastic red tail lighting and a shiny bumper
below. Interestingly the delineation is utilizing a series of thin
white horizontal stripes to make the fade even seem
softer...Capitol Idea! Polished Billet Specialties 5 spoke wheels
are wrapped by BF Goodrich low profile tires, and we can see the
larger SSBC Force 10 2 piston calipers for the front, painted in
red. I pulled a 4 alarmer!
Interior
A swing of the long doors which have nicely preserved near showroom
quality dark blue velour broadcloth intermixed with some molded
plastic, aluminum satin finished panels for the power windows and
side view mirror joystick, and a log carpeted bluer panel below we
are ready to climb in. Doing so we plant our butts in medium blue
velour high back buckets with headrests. These show in some tuck
and roll, and some smooth bolsters and are looking just fine baby
bear. A blue center console sporting a storage compartment. Wood
applique shift housing and a shiny red arrowhead emblazoned badge
just prior to its ascent where it meets with the center dash with
an EQ equipped AM/FM/Cassette radio and the temp sliders. Just
above several wood burl panels house plenty of eyeball A/C vents,
round gauges for extra monitoring of the vitals and of course the
large round speedo and tachometer. For driver's left more eyeball
vents are sitting comfortably near the doors. A padded crack free
blue dash top is undulating up and down across the front
passengers, and the original steering wheel is fronting this dash.
Blue carpeting floods the floors, and in back a bucket matching
pattern blue velour bench is firmly mounted between the opera glass
windows. We note that a very smooth blue headliner is above.
Drivetrain
Line up for your tickets because now showing under the hood is a
Consigner stated 400ci 425hp V8. On top is a 4-barrel carburetor
and on back a TH350 3-speed automatic trans. The rear axle is the
10-bolt variety and has 3.42 posi-traction gears. This engine shows
some slight patina and dust but is still looking just fine!
Undercarriage
No rust just black stamped and welded straight steel all over. A
red torque converter is seen and adds to the red calipers which are
on either side for the power front disc brakes. On back are power
drum brakes and a 4 link with coil springs with Hotchkis control
arms in the back. 2-inch drop spindles for the independent coil
sprung suspension in front. A like new Flowmaster exhaust is tilted
on for the exhale and great sound for the motor head in you.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and great runner, smooth shifting and bias free
panic stopping, all comfy interior make this a very nice find for
this year. Also, a mere 20K miles have been put on since all the
new fixins' have been painstakingly slapped on.
Awesome faded two tone, Billet Specialties 15 inch polished wheels.
Straight rust free steel and all that mid 80's square and rectangle
body design, a nice blue interior, and a heftier engine and my
friends we have traveled back in time but nothing looks as good as
the present on this classic.
