In an effort to provide a family oriented vehicle with off-road capability, Ford transitioned from the famed Bronco II and offered the new Ford Explorer for the 1991 Model Year. This was a significant design change in order to compete against Jeep and the new Chevy Blazer. The Explorer was well received with it's flush mounted glass, wraparound doors, and a wider body allowing for three-across rear seating. 30 years later, the Explorer is still going strong for Ford!
