1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
Car History
We have a 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Coupe here at Adventure
Classics that is a stunning "Survivor" car that is an unrestored
original car. It has the original paint and interior with only
33,230 original miles on it.
In 1978, Edward C. Kennard, General Manager of the Cadillac Motor
Division and Vice President of General Motors, offered a "special
edition" Biarritz package in five colors and easily recognized by
its unique, padded vinyl roof, wide body moldings, opera lamps,
distinctive Biarritz script, special accent stripes, color
coordinated wheel disks and plush interior appointments with 50/50
pillow type leather seating. It had a list price of over $13,000
when appropriately optioned.
Engine & Drivetrain
1978 was the last year for the large, front-wheel drive Eldorado
and was truly the end of an iconic automotive era, when bigger was
always better.
The engine is a cast iron block and head 7.0 litre 16-valve, 425
CID V8 engine equipped with a Rochester 4-bbl downdraft Quadrajet
carburetor. This engine produced 180 hp @ 4,000 rpm with 320 ft-lbs
of torque @ 2,000 rpm. It uses GM's Turbo Hydra-Matic THM-425
3-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
The engine compartment also maintains the original factory
appearance and is immaculate. It is like brand new with components
only replaced or repaired as needed and the air conditioning blows
cold.
Interior
The beautiful Desirable Biarritz package deluxe pillow seat
interior of bronze leather twin bucket seats is completely original
including the factory plush tan carpet. The trunk area is complete
with the space-saving spare, jack, tools and felt-style liners. No
description here will tell you how nice this interior really is,
but I will sum it up in one word....exquisite!
This Eldorado is loaded with factory options. We love the factory
AM/FM 8-track tape, signature interior features which include
sumptuous button-tufted contoured pillow-style seating with
glove-soft leather and 50/50 dual comfort front seats.
Exterior
Our survivor Cadillac retains the original paint in what has to be
the most desirable color combinations or Ruidoso Saddle with
Antique Dark Saddle interior trim offered for the 1978 model, and
for 1978, the Biarritz option added a convertible-like padded vinyl
top, unique script, body chrome moldings, and accent stripes.
The exclusive Cabriolet Roof is tailored in a richly textured elk
grain vinyl with French seams. The heavy padding is designed to
change the lines of the car and it changes the shape and size of
the rear quarter windows.
It has a stylish rear window treatment. Special accent striping,
stainless-steel moldings, color-keyed wheel discs with bright
chrome Cadillac factory hub caps and white wall tires, and
"Biarritz" scripts affixed to the rear sail panels distinctly mark
it as a Cadillac special edition. The Custom Biarritz is unique,
even among other Cadillacs.
Conclusion
The 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Coupe time capsule car here at
Adventure Classics is extraordinarily well cared for and still
maintains the factory showroom appearance.
It is simply an investment grade automobile as the photos do not do
justice to what it really looks like.
Preserved Cadillacs in this condition simply do not come to the
market very often. Here is your opportunity to own one of the
finest 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz's in the country.
