The creator of the Austin Bantam, Roy Evans, refused to give up after failing to continue his American Austin in 1934. So, he came back with a much more modern, streamlined and mechanically updated version of his beloved little car which debuted in 1937. The car’s simple 50 cubic inch flathead four-cylinder engine was given a bit more power with the assistance of famed racing engineer Harry Miller, while Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky nicely updated the Bantam line with an up-to-date, streamlined design. Unfortunately Americans didn't see the value of having a small, fuel efficient car at this time so Bantam production finally ended for good in 1940. Today Bantams have gained a great following among auto collectors and enthusiasts and have a very active Bantam club. These Bantams are always fun, very driveable, and great looking.
Offered here is a great original example of a 1938 Austin Bantam that has just been acquired from a very long time ownership here in Connecticut. Amazingly this car was previously owned by well known collector Bill Harrah where it was proudly displayed in his collection. It was then sold to the most recent owner during the auctions in the 1980s following Mr. Harrah's death. Overall it is a very nice example finished in its original colors of red with a white sweep panel. It has just been serviced including a fuel system cleaning. Cosmetically it has been treated to a detailing and looks just as good or better than when it was on display in the Harrah's collection.
