365/310HP V8 engine! There's no better example of GM's styling and
engineering prowess than the 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special
- drive one like this particular example and you will see why - its
hard to believe that this car was built over 63 years ago! The 1958
model year brought a heavier and bulkier design from the previous
years model and was not greatly changed engineering wise but was
vastly updated outside. In typical fifties fashion the Cadillac's
were given an annual facelift. All new quad headlamps and more
chrome, including large chrome bumpers with the grille now
outstretched to nearly full car length! A unique and classic design
that has stood the test of time! The top-of-the-line Eldorado's and
Series 60 Special Fleetwood models added lower rear quarter panel
stainless trim and another strip of stainless running from the
headlamps back to the midpoint of the car. The rear wheel opening
fender skirts were another Series 60 Special Fleetwood exclusive.
Also exclusive to this model were lower rear quarter panels covered
in stainless steel, horizontally ribbed on the 60 Special.
Interiors were more lavish than ever with thickly padded seats amp;
side panels and the instrument panel continued in it's chrome laden
horizontal theme. The frame was stiffer which allowed Cadillac to
lower the car by 3 inches. The 365 V8 had redesigned cylinder heads
with higher compression and the Sixty Special again was sized
between the Series 62 and the Series 75 limos. The Sixty Special
cost upwards of $6K and was one of the highest priced cars of its
day - and with good reason - fifties excess had virtually reached
its peak with Cadillac boasting bigger cars with more chrome and
larger fins than ever before! These cars bristled with the latest
in modern appointments and had few rivals in the luxury market with
a recession making owning one only for the very privileged elite.
These cars could be ordered with the new industry experimentation
of air suspension which this car was not, many ordered were
actually later changed back to the standard coil springs. Coil
springs were standard in the rear as well.Originally purchased by
an original southern California owner whose Los Angeles based
family had for generations owned significant land and cattle
ranches throughout California since the gold rush, including what
is today the largest state park in Northern California at over
80,000 acres! Recently purchased from it's long-time southern
California collector owner and an obviously flawlessly maintained
amp; always garaged and superbly kept museum/collector piece. The
floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are
completely original, solid and rust-free and the car was obviously
an always cherished 'Garage Queen' and part of a renown collection.
The car has one very gorgeous custom 'Red/Blue/Magenta' single
stage acrylic lacquer color paint job (with the paint mix alone
costing well over $1K) matched to a virtually flawless and no
expense spared original 'Light Gray All Wool Mohave Broadcloth
throughout with button pattern seats' trim interior with no seams
in the welting as would be factory correct and with a matching
headliner and carpets all of which are in as new condition
throughout. All the chrome has been re-chromed and any new
component used was NOS including all belts and hoses and the car
has a thick file of service records documenting it's recent years
service history. The 365 4 barrel V8 engine is extremely strong and
powerful and sounds absolutely magnificent and this particular car
drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be believed -
does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - drives straight as
an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly
remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a run for
it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and
the car is an absolute pleasure to drive! The car has always been
well maintained and only recently had a full service and tune up.
All the options work as they should including all the power
options, the power windows, power seats and the factory air
conditioning! The car boasts its original spare wheel and jack in
the truck amp; a rare full width slide down interior sun visor! This
is an extraordinarily rare opportunity to own one simply superb and
extraordinary example of a 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special in
both phenomenal driving and looking condition and with almost every
possible factory available option installed! The car won a recent
2017 A.A.C.A FIRST place award in the 'National Spring Meet' in
Palm Springs, CA and an A.A.C.A. SENIOR place award in the
'National Spring Meet' in Tucson, AZ the following year.
