'Testastretta' has been used before and means narrow head, which
comes from the more compact cylinder head design that debuted on
Ducati's liquid-cooled twins with the 998cc 996R in 2001, at low
revs, the gas has more time to fill the cylinder and a large amount
of overlap will mean a lot of the inlet charge is lost. . The 821,
is essentially a Monster 1200 outfitted with the same 821cc
Testastretta 11� engine used in the Ducati Hypermotard and
Hyperstrada. Changes to the powerplant include a larger airbox, new
ECU settings, shell main bearings, and a judder spring in the
clutch that's intended to smooth clutch engagement. An exhaust now
comes fitted with slash cut mufflers that arguably sound better
than the 1200's system, but otherwise the engine and associated
hardware are identical; as a result of the larger airbox, the
Monster makes roughly two more horsepower than the Hyper 112 hp @
9,250 rpm versus 110 hp @ 9,250 rpm on the supermoto model. Torque
output remains 65.8 foot-pounds at 7,750 rpm. . The 821's chassis
is like the 1200's in that it centers on a steel trellis frame that
attaches directly to the cylinder heads, yet most of the
comparisons Ducati draws are between the 821 and the 796 that it
replaces. The 821's frame is three pounds lighter than the frame on
the 796 and the bike's wheelbase is 30mm longer, for increased
saddle space.Trail has gone up considerably, from 87mm to 93.2mm,
whereas the center of gravity was moved 24mm farther forward and
18mm downward, a change that was most likely used to counterbalance
the handling traits brought on by the longer wheelbase and 39
pounds of weight the bike gained during its transformation from 796
to 821. Claimed wet weight is a rather staggering 453 pounds. . Our
