Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
First and second-generation Corvettes were one of the first true
collectible cars of the modern era, and collecting Corvettes
remains a global phenomenon. More than just another two-seat sports
car, the Vette is an American icon. There's a good reason it's
often referred to as America's sports car, and every enthusiast
should have at least a basic knowledge of its eight
generations.
For consignment an excellent condition '72 Vette. Taking form as a
numbers matching, matching original paint respray, and shiny clean
chrome. I smell another collectible coming over the hill straight
into your garage.
Exterior
Crossed flags lead the way in front on top of the Sunflower Yellow
painted fiberglass hood and body. Buddying up to its shark-like
front end with a chrome bumper at the V point, egg crate grille
below, and hidden headlights which melt into a small bump up hood,
this car's sculptural qualities are off the charts. Air intake egg
crate on the front quarters with Stingray scripted chrome backing
above and a curvaceous stainless rocker trim panel this car is a
work of art. The flat rear window is installed and is supported on
either side by flying buttresses. Bringing up the rear are the
iconic 'Vette round taillights into the flat vertical panel and
dual rectangular exhaust tips below the squared off eyebrow chrome
bumpers. Noted is the non-leaking T top that has removable panels.
Groovy
Interior
Saddle brown leather in nicely aged condition covers thin sculpted
high back buckets. The center console has the parking brake,
shifter and moving forward is an applique wood panel which houses
the gearshift and temp control wheels. Above is a cluster of round
gauges that will make you feel like a 747 pilot, and an aftermarket
Sony AM/FM/CD player with Bluetooth phone hookup capabilities. A
classic wood steering wheel fronts a deep dual gauge instrument
cluster. Door panels show nicely in the saddle brown molded
plastic, wood applique panels and carpeting below that matched the
carpeting on the floors (gold). In the back is more carpeting and
offers up ample storage for the tops and your stuff.
Drivetrain
A 350ci numbers matching V8 is nestled into a clean engine bay. On
top, a single 4-barrel carburetor and a numbers matching Muncie
M20, housing M22 internals for strength, 4-speed is attached to the
rear of the mill. 3.08 gears are reserved for this car's rear axle.
All numbers matching, and all very nicely presenting...applause
please for the powertrain.
Undercarriage
Straight out of 1972, this car is structurally sound, with very
limited areas of surface rust, clean floor pans, and just plain
goodness underneath. Dual exhaust is on and ends in stock style
mufflers. Racy C3 suspension on front and rear, and 4-wheel disc
brakes are all around. A shout out to the under of the engine
emblazoned with correct Chevrolet Orange/Red...nice! We do note
that the lower section of the radiator support is suffering the
effects of the invasive tin worm and should be replaced.
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and we are in auditory heaven and I can feel it
in the seat of my pants in the form of a vibration. Smooth shifter
with a good clutch, rail like handling, and lots-o-power from the
350 cubes throwing it back to the Muncie. Ergonomics are awesome
and I felt totally at home in this 'Vette, in fact so much so, I
may take it to my home, unless you beat me to it. While I'm at it I
will mention there was a clunk sound from the rear of this car when
I got on and off the accelerator (U joint? Differential
Bushing?).
All in all, a good performer, quick starter, and good runner. Nice
paint, and wonderful saddle brown contrasting to the yellow
interior. Consigner states rebuilt suspension, and a Davis unified
ignition now on.
