-Hagerty, January 2019 Motor Trend told the Blazer story this way:
Ford had the Bronco. Jeep had the CJ. Even International
Harvester-the tractor company-had the Scout. And General Motors
had...nothing? Into that sport-utility vacuum, the Chevrolet K5
Blazerwas born. With it, GM created a 4-4 that was both a direct
response to the existing spectrum of SUVs and yet also apart from
it. The key difference was size: Unlike its would-be rivals, the
Blazer was based on the automaker's successful full-size pickup
truck. That cost-saving measure allowed it both to come to market
quickly and to deliver greater capability than its competition. The
market reaction? The Chevrolet K5 Blazer was an instant success,
and it wasn't long before the vehicle dominated SUV sales. Offered
here is a second-year Blazer, beautifully restored, respectfully
upgraded, and newly re-powered. In bronze (with a removable black
cargo-area roof) over brown-and-black partial leather upholstery,
it's refreshed, period-correct look makes it a standout Blazer.
Showing just over 3,400 miles since its rebirth, the truck is in
many ways, a brand-new 1969 vehicle... with options not available
back in the day. Outside, the professionally applied bronze finish
is perfectly smooth across all body panels and displays consistent
gloss. The look is handsome, classic, and stock. The chrome grille,
chrome front and rear bumpers, and chrome body trim (including twin
round side mirrors) is all in excellent, pristine condition free of
damage or even minor wear indications. Cabin glass and lighting
lenses are similarly without flaws. The black fiberglass cargo-area
top was renewed and shows no wear or discoloration; it nicely
complements the copper body paint. From the blue bowtie hood emblem
upfront to the indented Chevrolet tailgate identification, and
including fender emblems denoting the model and engine and the
Chevrolet lettering in the grille, the look is stock, and as-new.
The sole obvious variation from stock is the truck's lifted look.
Fifteen-inch steel wheels are factory style with trim rings; center
caps in the rear feature 4X4 identification, while the fronts are
adjustable Warn manual locking hubs. LT-sized, Wild Country Radial
RVT off-road tires are mounted. Inside, the Blazer's door trim and
the dashboard are metal, painted in the same copper color as the
truck's exterior, reflecting its pickup-truck lineage. The
refreshment work on the dashboard resulted in a pristine look;
instrumentation has been beautifully restored, and an updated audio
head unit is fitted in the factory radio location, with
air-conditioning vents also perfectly integrated: stock look with
updated technology. A later-model, bowtie-branded steering wheel
is in place. (The truck's original data tags and build-equipment
sticker remain mounted.) Updated seat upholstery on the front
buckets and rear folding armchair bench is black leather with
brown-fabric center inserts, again reflecting the SUV's exterior
colors. Black cabin carpeting extends through to the cargo area
with the protection of black carpet mats front and back (the fronts
with bowtie logos). The rear-seat and cargo area side walls are
upholstered in black-and-brown matching the seat upholstery; (rear
speakers are incorporated in the trim. The rear tailgate and lift
hatch operate flawlessly and exhibit the same high leve
