Vehicle Description
1986 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The C4 Corvette represented a clean break from the Zora
Arkus-Duntov-designed C3, with a completely new chassis and
sleeker, more modern but still evolutionary styling. It was the
work of a team under chief Corvette designer Dave McLellan, who'd
taken over from Duntov in 1975.
For consignment we offer the 1986 version of America's sports car.
A 350ci V8 engine, and a very nicely preserved brick red with some
ground effects added as well as a rear spoiler and sexy ZR-1
wheels. Also, a new targa roof now covers a leather interior with
digital gauges.
Exterior
All clean bright brick red fiberglass in good condition forms the
exterior of this classic. A racing inspired ground effects package
has been added to the fiberglass body and this includes a rear
spoiler. With this package the car appears closer to the ground and
lowered overall. A black glass targa top is new, and looking great,
on or off for this racer. On the back a large greenhouse glass
extends from the B pillar to the spoiler and offers up plenty of
extra storage under it. All black for the trimmings surrounding the
glass, and a black trim runs the length of the vehicle just below
the belt line. 5 spoke ZR-1 wheels are all around and these add
bling to each corner of the car. Iconic dual round taillights on
either side of the vertical rear panel and dual exhaust peek out
from underneath on both sides.
Interior
Gray leather in a high back bucket form grace the inside of this
Vette. The seats have recently been recovered and sport power
controls. A digital driver information system is seen on the square
design dash. Grab a hold of a new steering wheel which fronts this
digital dash. The seats flank a console glove box which is covered
in a red leather top and has a bowtie and a Corvette badge
embroidered in black thread. Also, power windows and a red booted
automatic shift lever are in a field of warm gray toned faux wood
grain. This continues upward past the temp controls, AM/FM/Cassette
radio, and an information warning light center screen to the temp
controls right. A key fob remote access button will get you into
the rear storage area that has enough room to take the bags for a
long trip and store the roof panel. Gray carpeting appears original
and shows some slight fading and like new checkered flag and bowtie
emblazoned floor mats protect the carpeting from the passengers
shoes. Door panels are black vinyl and have a peppering of black
inserts to add contrast to their style.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci V8 L98 mill with electronic fuel
injection, (aka tuned port injection), that can be viewed within an
original engine bay. All clean under here and a racing chip has
been installed for just a little extra power for your right foot.
Bolted on back is the 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission. Keeping
everything cool is an electric fan on the cooling system. The rear
axle weighs in at a 2.59 ratio.
Undercarriage
Reasonably clean and rust free. C4 suspension is seen all around
and no rust under here. Also noted and on are power disc brakes for
the whoa factor and dual exhaust with a muffler delete is seen
snaking its way rearward to the dual dual pipe chrome tipped exit
at the back.
Drive-Ability
Started right up and the digital dash came to life with all the
stats. Drives very smoothly, has plenty of power, and the roof
panel goes on and off with ease. Solid handling, and we can
experience some G's with the chip, all the while looking racy with
the ground effects package. The digital HVAC works but sometimes
the display cuts out.
Overall a good condition Corvette all around. A 350ci engine with a
racing chip added, which runs well and starts quickly. Nice brick
red coloring and new glass targa top. All correct badging, and
leather interior, with seats recently recovered. I think I need a
Corvette in my driveway!
