Vehicle Description
1940 Plymouth Coupe
As the 40's arrive an all new look for vehicles came with it.
Fenders were slowly starting hug in closer to the bodies and the
aerodynamic styling's became more prominent. The same happened for
the Plymouths as they now looked completely different than they did
just 2 short years earlier. The 1940 Plymouth Coupe you see here is
a very cool classic and very unique. One of our personal favorite
things about it is strictly the fact that it is a Plymouth! You
just don't see that make of car getting as much attention nowadays
especially considering they aren't even around anymore. It is
however part of what really makes this one stand out among all
those 40 Fords out there. It has a similar stance and overall look
but the chrome accents and trim pieces really set it apart. This
car was rediscovered in 1974 and was resurrected after sitting for
some period of time. It was calling a boxcar home in the middle of
a wheat field in Northeast Kansas. It had been parked with 48,000
on the odometer and was roommates with a 1940 Ford Pickup. The car
was pulled out, spruced up and repainted that same year. The
current owner found the car in 1997 and that is when it really
started to be gone through. It is now coated in a very nice Black
paint that looks great. The body is solid with no apparent rust or
issues. It is a rare factory running board delete car which
actually really suits the overall look of the body. All of the
glass in it is brand new including the 2 piece windshield up front.
All of the stainless and trim is in great condition with a nice
shine. It has the original rear bumper in back which is in good
condition. Up front dual stainless nerf bars have been added but it
also comes with the original bumper. Chrome peep mirrors have been
added to both door pillars to help improve visibility. The car has
a slight rake which gives it a really good looking stance. It rides
on a set of Smith Wheels with a 15 inch custom offset and polished
full moon hubcaps. This gives it a really cool old school look but
it also comes with the original center cap and beauty rings which
were modified to fit 15 inch wheels. They are wrapped with wide
white radial tires that have plenty of life left.
While the exterior may have some street rod flair the drive train
was purposely kept mostly original. It has its original 170 ci
straight 6 cylinder motor that runs really well. The motor was
professionally gone through and rebuilt by Edgy who holds the world
speed record for the Mopar 6 cylinder. If there is a guy who knows
how to gets performance out of a straight 6, its that guy. It was
fitted with a performance head, cam, pistons and is topped off with
an original single barrel carburetor. The dual exhaust system is
routed out of the back of the car with pencil tips. The
transmission is the original 3 speed that has been rebuilt and
sends power back to the original rear end. One cool feature is the
original independent suspension system up front. Most would think
that type of set up must have been added but it is actually
original and just not something you see very often on a car of this
vintage. It also has disc brakes and drop spindles up front. In
rear it has parallel leaf springs and the car rides down the road
well. Don't let the 6 cylinder hold you back because this cruiser
can roll down the highway comfortable at 65 mph all day long.
The interior of the car has been redone in a Red and White color
combo which accents the dark Black exterior perfectly. The
Red/White theme is used throughout the car, even on mechanical
components like the rear end. The interior has a split bench seat
and is Red with White pleated inserts. In back it has custom fold
up jump seats. The dash has a great look and features original
gauges and trim. Red and White tear drop knobs have been added for
all of the switches and on the window cranks. It has a white faced
Moon tachometer mounted on the dash but it hasn't been hooked up.
The trunk of the car offers plenty of additional storage space and
is very cleanly finished out in the same Red and White combo. In
addition to an awesome vehicle all original parts that have been
removed from the car come alone with it.
