Only 1,455 miles since a total body off frame rotisserie
restoration. Restored to factory specs with some upgrades very
neatly installed. To make it more driver friendly it now has new
a/c system, power steering, power brakes with 4 wheel disc, an
alternator instead of a generator, radial white walls and more.
This was a California built, real Bel Air hardtop. It lived most of
it's life in Calif/Arizona. We have a thick pile of receipts
documenting the restoration.
EXTERIOR: Of all the 55 Chevys that I have seen, this is one of the
best for fit and finish. I am especially impressed with the precise
body gaps, the lower corners of the trunk lid and front cornersof
the hood fit better then any I've seen. Every square inch is laser
straight. The paint is literally polished like glass. I'm walking
around it looking at a red and white mirror. These are signature
colors for a 55 Bel Air- code 615S Gypsy red, Shoreline Beige.
Extra paint is included. I have not found any sort of flaw, crack
or bubble. Every single piece of chrome and stainless molding has
either been replaced or professionally restored. It has correct
antenna, optional dual mirrors, door handle guards and California
one piece bumpers. All of the glass has been replaced. Repainted
red rims with radial white wall tires and $500 worth of
reproduction hubcaps. The jambs are detailed, new latches and
weatherstrips.
INTERIOR: It is restored better than new from the carpet to the
headliner. I say better than new because of some nice upgrades
including seat belts, a retro stereo that fits right in the factory
hole, quartz movement in the clock, new wiring front to back with
an updated fuse block and push in fuses. It was also given a new
tilt column with a reproduction steering wheel that is actually a
little smaller then the original. It also has Vintage Air system
that uses controls and vents that look original. It was completely
gutted and lined with $390 in sound deadener. The headliner has
original chrome ribs, new headliner and visors. The seats have been
rebuilt, new cushions so they're nice and firm with no wrinkles in
the new reproduction upholstery. The door panels are all new
reproduction. The dash is restored beautifully. All the metal is
painted like red glass. All the trim, knobs, lenses, gauges,
ignition switch are new. Down on the floor is new red carpet with
reproduction mats. Everything was replaced- headlight dimmer,
mirror, handles and cranks etc.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Wow they did such an incredible job restoring
this motor compartment. Every single component down to the brackets
look brand new. The correct 265 V-8 was completely rebuilt. It has
a correct restored 2 barrel carburetor with glass bowl filter. It
has correct manifolds, air cleaner and Chevrolet script valve
covers. The distributor, coil and wires were replaced with new. It
was upgraded from a generator to a more efficient alternator. The
power brake system is also an upgraded with a dual reservoir master
cylinder. New electric wiper motor assembly assembly. It has a
correct reproduction tar top battery. All the metal surfaces are
smooth with meticulous paint.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Spotlessly clean metal painted just as smooth
and glossy as the outside. The spare rim is repainted and has a
reproduction whitewall tire that's never been used. The jack
assembly is restored to look new. New trunk latch, weatherstrip,
seat divider, reproduction mat and decal.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame and flipped on a rotisserie.
The bottom side is all clean metal that was correctly repainted red
oxide primer. The chassis was completely taken apart and restored.
The frame, control arms, springs and rear axle housing were powder
coated. The entire suspension and steering systems were rebuilt.
New leaf springs. The brake system is all new and upgraded to 4
wheel disc. New brake lines, hoses and e-brake assembly. New fuel
tank, straps, lines and sending unit. New dual exhaust with
Flowmaster mufflers with correct tips. Looking up at the motor it
is spotless, starter looks new. The original date coded Powerglide
automatic was rebuilt. The original rear end was rebuilt and
repainted proper colors. The body was reunited with the chassis
using new bushings.
Truly one of the best I have seen and I've seen a lot of 55s! The
fit and finishes throughout are impressive. I appreciate how they
retained it's vintage charm while carefully upgrading it to be a
safer, more comfortable car to drive. Restoration finished in 2009
and still looks like it was done yesterday, that's the sign of a
quality job.
