Vehicle Description
1965 Ford F-100 Pickup
Think 1965 and many things come to mind. Imagine the Gemini 2-man
spacecraft orbiting the earth, the civil rights march in Selma,
Alabama, the mini skirt makes an appearance on a thin model named
"Twiggy", and the average income per year is a whopping $6,450.
Peabody let's get into the way back machine gracing our
much-revered halls here at Classic Auto Mall and it's going to look
like a new 1965 Ford F-100 pickup. Bathed in red, an all correct
truck, and it has some chromed 15 inch Vision Legend Series 5 spoke
wheels on all 4 corners. All nicely done trimmings, and some recent
repairs and upgrades and it is now showing off as a 9.0 out of
10.
Exterior
RED shouts from all sides of this truck and it bathes straight
steel panels all minding their gaps nicely. The original egg crate
chromed grille with a single headlight flanking on either side, and
the F O R D badge just under the front of the hood. All over is
nice badging, and new rubber seals for the glass with side door
anti rattlers installed. The short bed is all steel and all red
with some nice stainless polished grab bars running the length on
the tops of either bed side. Very much like new bumpers and the
Vision Legend Polished 5 spokers with raised white letter Mickey
Thompson Sportsman S/T tires. Just a scant few rust bubbles are
seen poking from the paint on the driver's lower door.
Interior
Not unlike it appeared in the showroom in 1965 we see the original
dash with small centered instrument clusters which give only the
basics, fuel, speed, and water temp, along with an alternator and
oil warning light. For more information consult the trio of gauges
in their aftermarket form under the dash. A big steering wheel is
fronting this dash, and on the floors below is nice new red
carpeting. The remainder of the dash shows off in black painted
metal with a red metal dash top. Don't bump your head on this one!
A like new red vinyl bench graces the passenger compartment, and
door panels use black and red vinyl very effectively to make this
interior all come together and look really original. Also seen is a
shiny new fuel tank behind the bench seat. A shiny black headliner
is above and sets off the interior just beautifully.
Drivetrain
A flip of the 65 truck's hood and we see a clean blue block, cast
aluminum valve covered, and in a consigner stated 390ci V8. On top
feeding this mill is a new Holley 750cfm carburetor, on the back is
a 3-speed manual transmission which was recently rebuilt. A Ford
9-inch rear axle in 3.25 gear ratio is on the way back. All is
looking nice within this engine bay.
Undercarriage
Some patina, slight surface rust, straight and strong steel framing
and floor pans, along with new shocks, new I beams, kingpins and
alignment. A few areas of wheel well panels show some invasive rust
however it is not involved with any structural parts. Dual cherry
bomb exhausts are now on, and it is structurally and mechanically
sound underneath.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, smooth runner, great driver and good handling were
experienced during the test drive. All was working just perfectly
and we looked great doing it.
A very nice restoration keeping with the factory look from 1965,
this pickup has a few faults, but is very sound structurally, has
perfect badging and chrome, and a snazzy new interior. Also, an
extra NP435 transmission will come along with the purchase. You are
now seeing RED in your future Sherman.
