Vehicle Description
1977 Chevrolet Silverado
I've got some big news
The bank finally came through
And I'm holdin' the keys to a brand new Chevrolet
Have you been outside, it sure is a nice night
How about a little test drive
Down by the lake?
There's a place I know about where the dirt road runs out
And we can try out the four-wheel drive
Come on now what do you say
Girl, I can hardly wait to get a little mud on the tires.
For consignment a hot big short bed with 36 inch Super Swamper
tires, a 4-inch suspension lift and a 3-inch body lift. Totally
redone in the late 1980's and still retaining its spit shine. We
give you a go anywhere, over anything, through whatever obstacle in
its way 4 x 4 that can be your new romper room. Giggity
giggity.
Exterior
Look ! up in the sky it's this truck! Original bowtie steel all
straight and true and bathed in RM Miracryl Brown which is looking
great and retaining its shine. That my friends, is only the half of
it as the chrome tubular grille is on and fronted with a chromed
push bar mounted to the top of the bumper. And just in case you
can't find your way, the 7 KC lights atop the roll bar in the bed,
2 additional KC lights are within this push bar apparatus for extra
lighting. Nice white wide bars painted on either side just above
the rocker add some bling to the bottom and just above is an
airbrushed artwork of a bowtie seemingly tearing through the
metal...noice! The cab sports a wide sun visor mounted on the
exterior and like new seals are around all the glass. Plenty of
small details all add up to make a big impression and one is on the
wing windows with an etched bull with wings snorting out lightning
bolts. Kewl! A few additional flourishes in pinstripe are adorning
various areas of the body. Not one, not two, but 3 chromed tube
roll bars are reaching upward through the tan bed covering which is
vinyl on top and has a canvas liner underneath. Carpeting is
covering the bed. On back the tailgate has the CHEVROLET badge
running across the tailgate in the center in orange and a nice
flowerish pinstripe on top. A custom fabricated chromed bumper is
on back and I must say all chrome on this truck is just in
spectacular condition. 36-inch Super Swamper knobbies wrap 15 x 12
Weld Typhoon polished wheels on all 4 corners.
Interior
All Aboard! As we swing the doors and begin our climb inside, we
pass tan suede like broadcloth in various tiers of panels and a tan
carpeted bottom. The original cranks, door actuators and armrest
are within this faux suede field and look good and fully
functional. Moving across diamond plate kick panels and into the
cabin more tan broadcloth mixes with smooth tan vinyl bolsters and
forms the bench seat. Climbing in you will be high enough to be
just like a referee at a tennis match perched high so you'll miss
nothing! The dash is now deep rounded over woodgrain and houses all
the original gauges and where these are inserted the wood has been
neatly rounded over. An aftermarket tachometer hangs off the
column, and an AIWA digital radio with AM/FM/CD capabilities and
sound is provided by door mounted speakers. Fronting this great
crafty dash is a Grant GT wood rimmed rally steering wheel. A
matching wood gear shifter knob is now attached. Tan carpeting
floods the floors and rubber mats are protecting it. A nice tight
headliner has a sliding air venting rear glass just below on the
back looking at the bed.
Drivetrain
A good looking 350ci V8 with plenty of orange accenting in wiring,
master cylinder, wiper motor covering, and of course the GM block.
This beautiful piece of automotive engineering just gleams in the
clean engine bay with its polished 4-barrel carb and polished
intake manifold and valve coverings. Strapped to the back of this
mill is a TH350 automatic transmission with a B&M torque
converter and a shift kit. There is a 2-speed transfer case on for
extra giggles.
Undercarriage
Totally clean black floor pans and framing are accented by chrome
for the pumpkin cover, large 3 inch polished exhaust piping, and
the 8 polished Rancho shocks with orange covers. Some skid plates
and axle trusses protect the axles. On back are leaf springs to aid
the shocks, and upfront more leaf springs and 4 more shocks. Orange
painted accenting drum brakes are on back and disc brakes are now
upfront. Also noted are dual stage steering dampers for the power
steering. And, upon closer inspection of the wheel wells they
appear to be coated in black with small burst of color dots within.
Kinda like the turkey pan one would use in the
oven...bulletproof.
Drive-Ability
After a hike and climb inside I turned the key and it lit with a
thunderous roar. Not only does it look good, it also sounds great!
It drives like a dream with easy steering, great suspension, snappy
acceleration and plenty of climbing power. My partner and crime and
I were going to drive it over to "Lake Nielson" but decided to
would be too much extra effort for the detailer to clean up
afterwards. The wipers have been removed but the motor and
transmission are on the trunk and painted orange in the engine bay.
Also the HVAC blower was inoperable, as were the reverse
lights.
As self-described under the hood this "Rolling Thunder" jacked up
body and suspension short bed is nearly a showpiece, but can be
utilized hard as a go piece. So, grab your groover, tent and
shotgun, and let's go get some mud on those tires. Yee Haaaaah!
