First and foremost, if youre interested in this car, please call 412-980-5693.
Lets get this started! For your consideration is my dearly beloved 1960 Ford Fairlane 500. This car has been my daily driver for the past two years. I hate to sell him (Red Fred) however, I am out of room. I have 3 other 1960 Fords and could use so many good parts from this car for my other but, this is a running, driving and functional car. I don’t think Fred deserves to be taken apart. So, with that said, I will try to sell to someone looking for such a car.
A bit about this car…. I bought it about 2.5 years ago from a friend. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. It sat since 1998 and just started to puts around with it. Well, it ran and from there I made it better. I added the following to the car.
Recurved Duraspark Distributor
Dual Master Cylinder Braking System
New hoses and belt
Summit One wire Alternator
From there, I just drove the living heck out of the car. The speedometer doesn’t work, so I kept a log on my phone. 8650 is my total miles on the car at this point in time (still using it). The ’60 has taken me back and forth to work in all seasons (excluding when salt is on the road). We dressed the car up for Christmas and took it to TWO Christmas day travels.
While I get in this thing and just drive, its not for a novice jalopy owner. Its worn out, or as my family says, extremely broken in. You could probably fly in, and make it across the country in the car. Well, I take that back, I could drive this across the country. I know the car and how it acts. It might be safer for someone else to have it delivered. Its quirky but get the job done. I will go through everything about the car below. OH…one thing, the bike rack, that doesn’t go with the car. It’s a friends.
The car looks pretty cool. It is an original red with white top car. The paint is dull, the hood is in black epoxy and not very nice. But, it gets more thumbs up than my restored cars. All the windows are in decent shape. It simply looks awesome. Headlights are LED.
What you see is what you get! Seats are beat. But, the windows all work, door handles too! The fuel gauge works and is accurate. The temp gauge doesn’t work, but there is an aftermarket gauge under the dash that actually tells you the temp (and this baby just sits at 180* all day long).
The engine is a 70s truck Fe. It runs like a 390 but it could be a 360, I never measured the stroke. Yes, it leaks oil. But it does run strong! It has leaked oil since I started using it. It is what it is. The ignition is an electric duraspark that I recurved on my Sun Machine. Initial timing is 18*, centrifugal is 20*, total is 38*, all coming in at 2600 RPM. Its nice! It is cooled by a new aluminum radiator. The cars 12v is charged by a summit racing one wire. Brakes have a dual master for modern driving. The transmission is a late 60s 3 speed FMX, it shifts very nice and firm (maybe a shift kit?) The linkage is a bit tricky, park, R,N,D are all very close to each other. It has been like this since I have driven it. Just takes some getting used to! You kind of have to pull it almost to R to start then pull it back to P. Good news, it lights off so quickly, its not hard to do.
The frame and frame mounts are in great shape! The exhaust is okay.
All in all, this is a good car. If you want it, please call me. Im driving it 5 days a week!
