produced for the 1979 year! This Starlight Black, and extremely
clean, Trans Am example is exceptionally solid throughout. The
classic displays a factory black cloth interior, air conditioning,
WS6 Performance Package, power windows & locks, and much more! A
fantastic all numbers matching classic that is priced to sell
quickly!
Some would argue that the Trans Am era came to an end in 1979, the
last year the big motors were available. The high horsepower output
of the Pontiac 400ci or the impressive torque of the Oldsmobile 403
would both be off the menu come 1980. This makes the 1979 Pontiac
Trans Am a very prominent car to consider for any sports car
collection!
Offered for sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is a Van Nuys,
California built 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Y84 Special Edition WS6 T-op
Coupe finished in factory correct Starlight Black (19L19U) over
code correct Custom Black Lombardy II & Hobnail Cloth interior
(19B). This beautiful muscle car is powered by its number's
matching L78 6.6L 400ci V8-4bbl producing a factory estimated 220
horsepower and strong 320 lb. ft. of torque, Borg Warner T10
4-speed manual transmission, and 3.23 Safe-T-Track rear axle
ratio!
Factory options include highly sought-after WS6 Special Performance
Package providing 4-wheel disc brakes, 15x8" dished snowflake alloy
wheels, larger sway bars, and stiffer springs! Additional options
include factory air conditioning, removable glass T-top roof
panels, super cooling radiator, heavy duty battery, power windows &
locks, remote trunk lid release, tilt steering column, rear window
defrost, custom trim group & color-keyed seat belts, all Soft-Ray
tinted glass, remote driver mirror, lamp group, factory acoustical
insulation, and updated JVC AM/FM/Cassette radio with power
antenna!
The available Trans Am, seen here, was recently restored
professionally with superb exterior paint, all new graphics, new
weather stripping, while retaining the correct original cloth
interior upholstery, door panels, dash, and carpet. The overall
caliber of the body structure is remarkable!! From the door
fitment, panel gaps, factory spot welds, etc., this is exactly the
way you wish to find these classic examples! The vehicle retains
the original LOF window glass and T-tops.
It's number's matching engine retains its original WH-coded block,
6X heads, factory intake & exhaust manifolds, Rochester Quadrajet
carburetion, proper air inlet tubing, heat shields, and more! The
air conditioning system was retrofitted for R134a refrigerant. The
entire suspension system was rebuilt with new shocks, ball joints,
sway bar bushings, end links, and tie rod ends in 2002. Wearable
items like the brakes, upgraded true dual exhaust system, fuel
pump, and cooling system were all serviced as needed over the
years. The snowflake wheels were recently fitted with new BF
Goodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires measuring 225/70R15 in March
2021, along with new idler arm, engine mounts, and rear shocks. The
brake system has been fully flushed and renewed with new fluid, as
has the engine oil and filter.
Today, this ready to drive example is showing 7,525 miles on the
odometer which we believe to be 107,525, but will be sold mileage
exempt due to age and the recent mechanical restoration. The
vehicle runs and drives as good as it looks! In the carpeted trunk
remains a Space-Saver spare, and GM/Fisher T-top storage bags. Also
included with this Special Edition Trans Am will be the factory
owner's manual, scheduled maintenance booklet, partial build sheet,
and PHS documentation!
This classic was delivered new at Markquart Motors Inc. in Eau
Claire, WI in late December 1978 just in time for Christmas! Having
the rare Y84 Special Edition package combined with the desirable
W72 engine RPO make this car exceptionally rare! Considering only
1,107 were ever produced like it! Factor in the host of
accessories, WS6 Performance Package & air conditioning, and you
