Vehicle Description
Here's one for the collector who likes to be a bit different. This
1968 Pontiac Firebird keeps its cool cruiser attitude, including a
year-correct OHC motor still under the hood. It's a truly unique
coupe that also knows how to sparkle in the sunshine.
Sure, Firebirds look good in red and black, but this one likes to
be a bit more of a sophisticated standout. The Graphite Gray paint
was an update later in life. It has the high gloss look of a
quality application, and the metallic element in the finish gives
it that added sparkle to attract attention on any sunny day. A
straight body, clean lines, and complete trim really bring together
an appealing package. Plus, these early cars launched the legend
with an outstanding style with the chrome bumper dominating the
front end, and the hood even is sharply pointed to emphasize the
Firebird's beak.
The black bucket seat interior is neatly done and carries an
exceptional level of factory correctness. You see it in the
details, like the correct badging on the door panels, the
three-spoke wheel with Firebird horn cap, and the hint of wood-like
trim on the dash. And this also has one of our favorite Pontiac
performance pieces, the hood-mounted tach. In fact, the only modern
addition you may spot to this authentic and stylish interior is the
retro-style AM/FM radio. It keeps the vintage look, but now you
have a digital tuner for upgraded driving music... and that's ideal
in a car that was certainly made to be a cruiser.
While this coupe already has plenty of vintage charm, your favorite
part will likely be under the hood. John DeLorean had transformed
Pontiac into an engineering-focused car company, and this 250
cubic-inch OHV inline-six motor is one of those achievements. So
while there are many people out there over the years who have made
a V8 swap, it has only made a distinct setup like this one here an
even rarer sight. That's why we're particularly happy to see a
1968-correct motor still in the engine bay today, and it has the
tidy and bright look like it's ready to show off. This is also
great for driving with the smooth nature of the inline-six. Plus,
the automatic transmission, power steering, strong brakes, and
brand new BF Goodrich redline tires make for an all-around nice
classic cruiser.
It's hard to find a OHC Firebird with nice features and such a
sharp style. So if you appreciate a truly distinctive classic, call
