1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO SS
Car History
We have an ultra-rare survivor, highly optioned, Fathom Green X66,
two-owner 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 with the original engine,
transmission, and rear axle that is the very same that General
Motors installed in the car at the Norwood Ohio factory assembly,
here at Adventure Classics.
The 1969 Camaro is one of the most sought after American muscle
cars and there is no doubt that this super rare original Camaro
will be a great car for any collection.
This time-capsule was always garage kept and it show in the lacquer
paint that is still in wonderful condition for its age.
Engine & Drivetrain
The engine in our original Chevrolet Camaro is the high performance
396 cubic inch with the 350 horsepower rating that General Motors
installed in the car at the factory in 1969, and has never been out
of the car. The engine runs excellent. It has all the factory
correct looking parts such as the orange painted block and intake,
chrome Chevrolet valve covers, open air cowl induction air cleaner,
factory air conditioning, Quad carb, factory cast iron exhaust
headers, power steering and power brakes.
It sits in the factory looking engine compartment just as it did
when it was new with even factory stampings on the firewall, the
X66 Trim Tag, and correct color coded wiring and hoses with the
original "tower" hose clamps.
The factory powertrain behind the engine consists of the original
rebuilt GM 400 Turbo Hydro automatic transmission, and at the rear,
the matching numbers 12-bolt HD GM 3:31 Positraction unit.
A lot of other new parts have been put on the Camaro including the
brake pads, calipers, new master cylinder, new water pump,
thermostat and gasket, new $600 recore of the radiator with the
original tanks, frame and date tag, rebuilt carb, and new dual
exhaust system.
Interior
This 1969 Camaro has over 21 options on it and has the standard
black bucket seats and seat covers with the factory console with
Tic-Tok gauges in the middle, housing the "Horse-shoe" automatic
shifter, black door panels and carpet, fast ratio steering, the SS
gauge package with the dash mounted tachometer and clock, 120 MPH
speedometer, factory radio, woodgrain trim, tinted glass, factory
AC, overhead shoulder belts, passenger side vanity mirror, drivers
side remote mirror, rear window defogger, and tilt SS steering
wheel.
The one very rare option this Camaro has was the RPO code U57
factory 8-track tape player and Stereo Tape System that included
four speakers, try to find another in a SS 396!
The original owner had the interior changed from the light green to
black with all work done there at the Chevrolet dealer.
Exterior
Our SS 396 Camaro has all body panels that were genuine GM original
to the Camaro we have been told by the owner. That means that this
car is almost all original paint too. It is painted in the correct
#57 code of Fathom Green (per the Trim Tag) with white stripes on
the cowl hood and rear trunk, has a black vinyl top, the front &
rear spoiler package, and rides on the factory Rally wheels with
chrome trim rings and caps and BF Goodrich Radial TA tires as
well.
The original owner had the factory SS hood replaced by the factory
steel cowl induction hood and air cleaner, and redid the SS
striping for the Z28 stripes.
Conclusion
This without doubt one of the most desirable of all the Camaros
built in 1969. The ultra rare X66 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 with
the original engine, transmission, and rear axle we have here at
Adventure Classics would be very hard to find in this original
condition.
So, don't miss out on this soooooooooo rare Camaro SS 396.
If you want a super collectable Camaro, this is the car for you. No
more parts searching or no more struggling to find that last
