Vehicle Description

For sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is a rare 1942 Packard One Twenty (Packard 120) featuring period correct colors and its original drivetrain! This beautiful 1940s Convertible Packard example is nicely accessorized with single side-mount spare, running boards, reverse light, Trippe lights, wire spoke wheels, overdrive transmission, and more! Great collector piece!

Brief History About the One- Twenty Packard:
Leading up to World War II, Packard had a model lineup ready for any and all buyers in nearly every price range. The 1942 20th-Series Packard was introduced with an entirely new shape that pulled the modern appeal of the Clipper styling across all body styles, except for one, the convertible coupe. This particular series Packard would continue to be offered in the classic 1941 stylings, marketed as Body No. 1589 in six-cylinder form on an exclusive 122" chassis and Body No. 1599 with an eight cylinder as the only Junior series Packard to share the Senior Eight 127" chassis. With bucket headlights incorporated into the fenders along with the parking lamps, rounder fenders that retained horizontal stainless trim accents front & rear, optional isolated running boards, simplified side engine trim that incorporated the hood release, tail lamps moved to the body, while the fuel tank finally received a gas door to hide the filler cap, plus a much more inviting interior that offered a single handle convertible top release and power folding operation! Manufacturing for all auto makers came to a halt in early February 1942 to focus efforts on military equipment and supplies, making the last of these limited production, pre-war Packards very rare indeed!

Details About Our Available Packard Example:
Offered here is a beautifully restored 1942 Packard One-Twenty Convertible Coupe with classic appeal everywhere you look! Painted in the two-tone iridescent shades of Sable Brown & Carlotta Brown with a gorgeous Brown & Beige leather combination interior! The 1940s Packard example, seen here, is riding on a 127" wheelbase with power coming from its original 282ci Straight 8 L-Head engine with correct Carter dual downdraft carburetor producing 125 horsepower. All is transferred through a column shifted 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive adding comfort at higher speeds with less engine stress. Options are abundant on this convertible which include accessory running boards, single side-mounted spare, Packard AM radio with cowl-mounted antenna, working electric dash clock, Trippe driving lights with original dash switch, Cormorant radiator mascot, turn signals, rear reverse light, dual outside mirrors, Packard Deluxe under dash heater/defrost along with auxiliary under seat heater, power folding convertible top, fiberglass rear fender skirts, chrome wire spoke wheels with 255/75R15 radial wide whitewall tires, decorative exhaust turn down tip, and carpeted trunk.

This stunning example began life in sunny, southern California and sold new from Earl C. Anthony Packard in Los Angeles on November 28th, 1941. It remained a solid, rust free example and went through a passionate restoration in 1996 when Massachusetts collector and body shop owner, Frank Finney, purchased it. He was an active member of the North Shore Old Car Club and attended many car shows in the northeast. He conducted a complete repaint in factory colors, all new leather interior and floor carpeting, refinished dash, full engine rebuild, all new cloth-covered 6-volt wiring harnesses, new sending unit & pump, restored original running boards with rubber surface, complete restoration of transmission & overdrive with original parts, balanced driveshaft, stainless steel exhaust, all new tires, all new braking system & linkage, new wheel bearings, fully refurbished power top operation with new convertible top, rebuilt water heater, re-plated & polished chrome bumpers, and so much more! Upon completion, it went on to be shown in the 1999 Packard Centennial Celebration in Warren, OH, The Castle Hill Concours D'Elegance, and many others. It stayed in the loving care of Mr. Finney until his passing in July 2018, and with the Finney family until February of this year.

Even after all these years, our available classic Packard remains a remarkable car showcasing minimal visible wear, mainly around the entry points and seating areas. Front seatbelts have been added for safety, along with an auxiliary oil pressure gauge under the dash viewable to the driver, and an exhaust driven "wolf whistle" for parade use. This Packard Convertible Coupe is titled off its original engine #E312288D. It is very rare when a vehicle comes to market with a show ready appearance and proven drivability! Any interested parties are welcome to call with additional questions, or schedule a chance to view it firsthand. If you have been looking for a pre-war Packard Convertible, your search stops here. What a value!
