test. It wasn't just Edmunds hailing the performance of the
last-year GTO, as DrivingLine noted: With a six-speed GTO, Car and
Driver got 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds
at 107 mph. That was hauling.... After three years, Pontiac sold
just under 41,000 of what was its quickest, best handling GTO ever.
The writers went on to provide more GTO development stats: For
2005, the GTO got a few upgrades including a pair of hood scoops,
dual exhaust outlets in the rear, bigger brakes and a larger LS2 V8
that made 400 horsepower. All of this improved upon the car's
already impressive performance, while also giving it a dash of
extra curb appeal. The GTO continued into 2006 with minor changes,
but with the end of Monaro production in Australia, this also
marked the end of the Pontiac GTO's three-year revival. In 2009,
General Motors decided to shut down the Pontiac brand as a result
of the economic recession - and this meant there would never be
another GTO produced. Offered here is an exceptional example of
that best ever and last ever GTO. Brilliant in red over black, it's
also appealing for its low mileage. In all, this goat has travelled
65,000 miles, or just over 4,000 miles per-year on average since
new. The Carfax history report showing no accidents or damage adds
to the car's appeal. This is an extremely well-preserved, historic
model from GM's legendary performance division. The car's
brilliant, pearlescent red paint retains a factory appearance
across the entire body. Paint condition across the front of the
car-including the twin grilles-is especially impressive, free of
virtually any road rash. That also holds true for other body panels
including the rear-deck spoiler. In similar fashion, the five-spoke
factory wheels, cabin glass, lighting lenses, mirror caps, and
black window trim all display like-new condition. All
factory-applied emblems and badges-notably including the
front-fender GTO 6.0 Litre identification-are in place and as-new.
The sole rear-deck Pontiac logo badge is a tasteful vestige of
Pontiacs over time. It's hard to imagine many '06 GTOs remain in
such beautiful condition. Inside, the four-seater's racing-style,
properly bolstered front and rear bucket seats are upholstered in
black leather; the front-seats feature embroidered GTO
identification on the upper portion of the backrests. The
Pontiac-logo steering wheel fronts driver-focused, analog
instruments with gray faces. Across all the instruments and
switchgear on the black dash, the white graphic markings are free
of virtually any sign of wear. Door trim-including the step-over
area of the door jamb-is likewise damage-free. The console-mounted
short shifter features the 6-speed shift pattern; to its rear there
is a between-seat storage compartment. Cabin floors are black
carpet protected by GTO-identified front carpet mats. The car's
trunk is as spotless as the rest of the car. Under the hood, the
GTO-banded, 6-liter, 440-horsepower, LS2 V8 performance engine
(with AEM intake) and its related c
