For Sale: 1962 Triumph TR3B in Haddam, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1962 Triumph TR3b

The TR3b came into being as Triumph was introducing the TR4 and as sales were faltering a bit, they decided to keep the TR3 going... They took the engine/trans from the TR4, (the 2.2L 4 cylinder and 4 speed syncro transmission) and dropped it into the TR3. Physically, there are no discernible differences between a late TR3A and a TR3B.

The 2.2L (2138 cc 4 cyl) OHV I-4, was good for 105 hp and 127 lb-ft.

Unfortunately, we don't know the history from it's purchase new in 62 but we do know that it was delivered to a dealer in Houston from Britain. This is a fully numbers matching car and comes with a British Motorcar Heritage Certificate. In May of 1973, Jo Allen bought the car from an Illinois dealer and financed the $5088 purchase. In 1977 she had paid off the note. It is believed she sold it on to Joe P in VT (probably in the 90's) who initially drove the car regularly and in the early 2000's starting getting into restoring the car. In 2010 the car was repainted in it's original Signal Red. The odometer shows just over 5000 miles and we figure that to be 105,000, it is believed that the engine had work performed when it was out of the car for the repaint. In 2018 the car was sold to her current owner here in CT. He put new wheels and tires on the car and did some other minor maintenance items.

The car fires right up and runs and drives beautifully.

With the "extra" horsepower, this car will generally keep up with modern traffic, it has front disc brakes and rear drums to stop it securely. Other interior amenities include a factory optioned heater, adjustable steering column, white side screens and a white tonneau cover. There is also a white full top with the car. These are all in very good condition, in need of a deep cleaning and not much else. The side screens have a couple of small tears that have been patched with fabric tape. Also included is a Moto-Lita 3 spoke wooden steering wheel and RacerDirect lap belts.

Under the bonnet are polished, rebuilt SU carbs, AC air filters, finned Offenhauser valve cover, new generator, clutch slave and brake master cylinder. There is a freshly painted, louvered bonnet that comes with the car as well if someone favors that look.

The new Panasport Z aluminum wheels are wrapped in Vredestein 165 HR15 rubber.

Last year the car was taken to the British By the Sea car show and won first in class.

Unfortunately, also last year, the owner passed away and now his widow is selling the car, which he had purchased in essence for her.

This car presents very well and although not in concours show condition, is in very good nick and ready to hop in and drive, enjoy and even take to local car shows. Of course there are a couple small blemishes with a car that has been driven and enjoyed for nigh on 60 years, some wear on interior bits and a small chip in the paint at the door shut, of course, not being concours, the undercarriage shows some wear and tear as well but is not rusty at all.

With museum quality versions selling well north of $30K, this one is offered at $25,000 and the owner is open to reasonable offers.

Any questions, for many more photos, to schedule a time to see her or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for the interest.
