875423 was completed on August 29, 1961 in Cotswold Blue with a Blue soft top, over Dark Blue leather upholstery. The LHD open two-seater was dispatched on September 15, 1961 through Jaguar Cars, New York - making its way to its first owner Earl Tharalson of Palm Desert, California. As confirmed by Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

During the first year of production, numerous running changes were made to the E-Type blueprint, and this early-production model retains the desirable welded louvers and flat floors synonymous with those cars. 875423 was constructed just after the inside bonnet latch transition and features a unique fitment of outside bonnet latch retaining screws on the inner top sills where the prior latch catches were mounted. This is a documented occurrence on the very early succeeding cars.

A number of records form the mid-1980's - onward, document frequent services and regular upkeep. Photographs from that period accompany as well. Mr. Shield of El Dorado Hills, California acquired the Roadster 2001, showing just under 55,000 miles with a commissioned restoration already underway. The engine had been freshly rebuilt and was inspected to verify the quality of the work. Over a period of years, the work progressed, component by component.

The respected Sherm's Custom Plating of Sacramento provided the show-quality brightwork, Sufolk & Turley in the UK provided the leather interior, and Classic Jaguar of Austin rebuilt the Jaguar's inboard-brake rear-axle assembly. Dave Ferguson's Images Auto Body of Campbell, California, prepared the bodywork and returned it to its original and elegant Cotswold Blue and oversaw the roadster's final assembly. At every stage, special care was taken to complete the restoration as authentically as possible. NOS fasteners were sourced and installed while proper plating and coatings were applied throughout the car. The result remains truly spectacular.

Following the restoration, this lovely Cotswold Blue E-Type was given pride of place at the entrance of The Quail Motorsports Gathering in August 2014, and presented as an ambassador for its model in October, 2014 at the Niello Concours at Serrano in El Dorado Hills, California.

Validating its extraordinary combination of fit, finish, and livery, 875423 recently resided amongst a notable Midwest collection with regular upkeep and occasional use. Today with 56,275 recorded miles, the XKE presents well enough for continued concours display, Jaguar Club events, and spirited vintage touring. A 2021 inspection and scheduled service also included a tune-up and new period style 6.40-15 Champion Deluxe tires with Michelin tubes for excellent continued drivability.

In addition to the JDHT Certificate and Record Dossier, 875423 is supported by a complete and concours worthy Tool Kit, Jack in Pouch, Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook, Thor Hammer, and matching Boot Cover for open-air motoring.

A remarkable Series I 3.8L Roadster, expertly finished in its breathtaking factory livery (Cotswold Blue only offered in 1961-1964), this Jaguar E-Type offers a world of opportunities to its next caretaker - available now for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
