Motor Show and released for sale for 1990, the fourth-generation
Mercedes-Benz SL replaced the long-running R107 models of
1971-1989. Internally coded R129 and riding a 99-inch wheelbase,
the new SL featured handsomely chiseled bodylines, exceptional
all-around performance, and cutting-edge safety features including
a hidden, automatically-deployed roll bar. First available as the
300 SL and 500 SL with 3.0L 6-cylinder and 5.0L V-8 power
respectively, the R129 remains one of the finest Grand Touring
Mercedes-Benz models ever produced. The ultimate 600 SL debuted in
summer 1992 as the first SL with V-12 power with a turbine-smooth
6.0L engine delivering 389 horsepower for amazing performance. A
model-name change from 1994 onward resulted in the SL 600
designation and after a facelift debuted at the 1995 Frankfurt
show, R129 production continued until 2001. Fast, solidly built
