wants a four-door SUV; sometimes two doors will work just perfect
for someones personal taste and style. This 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
4x4 looks fantastic for its age and is a very nice example.
Nineteen ninety-nine marked the final year for the two-door model
and for all first-generation Tahoes. This Tahoe was made in GM?s
Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico factory and is finished in Indigo Blue
Metallic (code 39U). The paint and trim are in overall very good
order, especially considering the mileage. The Tahoe?s body is
straight and solid with Luverne nerf bars, the engine bay is
extremely tidy, the cargo bay looks great, the battery appears new
and the chrome bumpers with rub strips fit tightly to the body.
This Tahoe rolls on Mastercraft Courser A/T light truck tires, size
265/70R17 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a factory alloy
wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good condition. This
Tahoe rides on a 111.5-inch wheelbase, has a 6,250 GVWR and a
30-gallon fuel tank. There are also a rear window defroster and
wiper/washer. Under the hood is a brand new crate Vortec 5.7L V-8
engine (code L31) with all new sensors. It is bolted to a
four-speed automatic transmission (code 4L60E) with a 3.73:1 rear
end and AutoTrac full-time four-wheel-drive, complete with New
Venture 246 and New Venture 241 transfer cases. Driver convenience
features include air-conditioning, speed-sensitive power steering,
power four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, power windows, power
mirrors, power locks and cruise control. Inside, the gray cloth
interior (code 13) is in very good condition. The front buckets and
rear folding bench look great, as does the gray carpet and matching
headliner. A four-spoke steering wheel faces the driver while the
inner door panels and dashboard echo the rest of the interior?s
condition. A column-mounted shift lever and an aftermarket AM/FM
stereo with CD player round out the interior. The Tahoe/Yukon were
shorter than the Suburban on which they were based but shared that
vehicle's GMT400 platform. This was a true truck chassis and was
based on that used in the Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup
truck. Both two-door and four-door models were produced in rear-
and four-wheel drive. The two-door weighs roughly 4,500-pounds. The
two-door rode a six-inch shorter wheelbase than the four-door.
?AutoTrac? full-time all-wheel drive and a programmable Homelink
transmitter were added for 1998. Beginning in 1994, GM began making
numerous annual changes to the Blazer/Yukon, including: ?Revised
interior including a driver-side air bag, revised side mirrors,
Blazer renamed Tahoe (1995) ?Revised Vortec 5.7L engine with
increased power and fuel efficiency, electronic 4WD shifting,
daytime running lights, illuminated entry, and some new interior
features (1996) ?Revised automatic transmission, new EVO
(electronic variable orifice) speed-sensitive power steering system
and added passenger-side airbag (1997) ?PassLock security system,
heated front seating surfaces optional, air conditioning for rear
seat passengers, AutoTrac automatic 4WD option added,
second-generation airbags, transmissions revised again (1998)
?Tahoe 2-door option dropped (1999) Competition to this Tahoe in
1999 included Ford?s Expedition, Dodge?s Ramcharger, GMC?s Yukon,
Lexus? RX300 and Lincoln?s Navigator. If you?re after a
