HIGHLIGHTS: Nicely preserved, largely original 1979 Wagoneer! First
of America's luxury SUVs! 360 V8, brown exterior with classy brown
leather interior and high-pile carpet! Power rear window, believed
to be 88k actual miles and a two-owner vehicle!
BODY OVERVIEW: The body is remarkably straight, considering this
Jeep has not received a restoration of any kind, and it shows that
this vehicle has been cared for over the years. If you know full
sized Jeeps (FSJs), then you know how prone they are to rusting.
Underneath, this Wagoneer is pleasantly solid, with minimal amounts
of rust showing in one or two of the common areas.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: It's been a number of years since this
Jeep received a repaint, but it still looks good. Kept
aesthetically true to original form, this old Jeep is sure to bring
back some memories! The paint is in good condition showing normal
wear and age, as one would expect for a well-maintained but
unrestored vehicle. The woodgrain vinyl decals are in surprisingly
good condition, albeit some damage here and there especially on the
passenger side quarter panel. The decals look to have been redone
at the same time as the paint.
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: Step inside this Jeep and poof-it's
the early 1980s and you are doing very well for yourself. The
comfortable leather buckets are in nice, original condition with
normal wear. Though the late-1970s "shag" carpeting is beginning to
show some age, this interior has all the earmarks of a vehicle that
has been driven and maintained over the years. Plus it even has the
rare factory AM/FM/CB radio still in place!
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: A well-loved occasional daily vehicle for most
of its life, this Jeep runs well and handles like a Jeep should.
Under the hood is an AMC 360 V8-that's right, these are different
from the Chrysler 360. The 360 runs smoothly, and is plenty
adequate power for comfortable motoring in this luxury behemoth.
The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission makes for smooth shifting,
and excellent parts availability should it be needed in the future.
Power brakes, power steering, and A/C are bonus luxuries that make
this Jeep all the more cushy. For a vehicle that has its roots in a
utility truck, the ride in this Wagoneer is surprisingly
comfortable and quiet-like any good luxury SUV should be.
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: The Jeep Wagoneer really set the
stage for America's luxury trucks and SUVs. They got fancier and
fancier every year, appealing to higher and higher end buyers.
Aside from the classic luxury feel, the history alone should be
enough to keep you hooked!
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: If you're looking for a
top-notch show car, this isn't it. It is an old Jeep that has been
looked after over the years.
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? This vehicle has been with the current owner
since 1992 as a secondary vehicle, and everything seems to work as
expected. Cosmetically, a nice buff job and some new vinyl
woodgrain could really make it stand out! Beyond that, some new
seals and gaskets here and there would cure the leaks it has. The
windows will likely need to be greased as they are sticky.
WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? Whether you're looking for a
fun & unique driver-quality Wagoneer to tinker with and cruise on
the weekends or a solid start to a next-level restoration, this
Jeep is a great candidate for whatever you have in mind!
