Vehicle Description
With a great color combo, drop-top rarity, and Rocket V8 power,
this 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible has a terrific appeal
that's as clear as black and white, literally!
The two-tone black and white paint conveys an elegance that you
want from an Oldsmobile. There was an investment in a high-contrast
and high-gloss application that loves to show off the straight
sheetmetal with a premium flair. And the way the trim line cuts
through the door line to provide a separation for these colors
really gives this the look of an upper-class classic. More of this
stylishness is seen on the brightwork, like the jet-inspired hood
ornament, Oldsmobile's "Rocket Round the World" logos, rear bumper
upgraded with continental kit, and the front chrome bumper that
fits the contours of the car while encapsulating the grille. This
one really has a great sense of vintage chic, right down to
details. We especially like how the Oldsmobile lettering seems to
almost hover over the front in big block script is like of the
Hollywood sign... and it's another reminder that this car is a
star.
The white convertible top fits with the color theme, and with the
flip of a switch, it powers down to reveal even more great black
and white coordination on the interior. The overall look of this
one is a car out to be vintage and stylish, but never wants to be
the kind of car you are afraid to let everyone hop in and enjoy the
experience with you. That's why two rows of leather seats give
family and friends plenty of space to spread out. The '50s were all
about big style and symmetry, and you see that everywhere from the
dual-spoke steering wheel, to the bright trim on the dash. The full
presentation is very complete and preserved, right down to the
working AM radio.
The Olds OHV Rocket V8 is an important motor, because it really
helped ignite a power frenzy in the 1950s. This 324 cubic-inch
powerhouse with four-barrel carburetor on top looks like they spent
plenty making it appear like a time capsule, right down to the bold
green block. And we know you love how the brightly painted valve
covers announce the motor. While the setup has the right pieces in
place for classic looks, it has also been enhanced to be a better
driver. For example, you have a 12 volt electrical system, which
helps run the upgraded LED headlights (the originals come with the
sale, too.) That way you can easily get up before dawn to be first
at the car show. The consignor says the V8 was rebuilt, and the way
it fires up and runs reaffirms an investment in quality. And it's
paired with a smooth-shifting three-speed manual transmission.
Plus, you have great cruising features, like power steering, and a
modern tread behind the classic-looking whitewalls.
The sale comes with build receipts, maintenance records, and plenty
of awards that this convertible has already won. There were only
about 9,000 of these '55 Super 88 convertibles built over 65 years
ago, and so you can imagine how few are left today with this much
distinction. Don't let this classic Olds drop-top slip away, call
today!
