Vehicle Description
A numbers-matching 1981 Chevrolet Corvette is always an appealing
classic. So when you also find one that has a ton of originality,
loaded with great features (including A/C), and is priced right,
well then you know you need to pay attention.
This car represents its era in many ways. First, it's a St. Louis
built coupe in the final year of the historic plant (remember, they
moved to Bowling Green in mid-1981.) Also, the Frost Beige paint
was only available for a few years, and it represents the era
perfectly. This shows the right signs of being a highly original
application, and it's the right mix of survivor style that still
knows how to give off a good shine. In fact, the whole car looks
great with nicely fitting panels and the brown pinstriping that
highlights every one of the C3's iconic curves. This may have been
the era of toning down brightwork, but on this coupe, it means that
sporty elements like the aluminum wheels and dual exhaust tips
really stand out.
There's a great mix of vintage style and fresh investments inside.
For example, you have the distinct Cinnabar interior was only
offered in 1981. It really goes nicely against the creamy tone of
the exterior. But you may notice the seats were freshly upgraded to
a tan leather. So you get a supple feel and a harmonious tone that
goes with the whole package. Other investments include worthwhile
features, like added sound insulation and a retro-style AM/FM
digital tuner. Plus, there's power windows, power locks, and
cold-blowing air conditioning (always great when you want to cruise
with the T-tops out.) Your seat power adjusts to the ideal driving
position, and the tilt/telescopic steering column makes it easy to
get a commanding view in this Corvette.
Under the hood is the numbers-matching 350 cubic-inch V8. This
makes it right for the collectors, but this one was also meant to
be driven. So it has received good care and maintenance including a
newer carburetor and distributor in 2019. It fires up easily, and
makes a terrific sound as headers add power and rumble to the
upgraded X-pipe dual exhaust. The fully independent suspension and
four-wheel power disc brakes are part of the hallmark features that
makes these such great driving classics. Add in the three-speed
automatic transmission, power steering, and cruise control, and you
have the makings of an ideal all-around vintage cruiser.
The sale comes complete with maintenance records, build receipts,
and service manuals. This is an interesting and affordable 'Vette.
