Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Mention the name Corvette and immediately someone in the
conversation will perk up and pay attention. It's a timeless
American sports car and has gone through several personality
changes. From the 2-seat coupe when first introduced, to a fast
50's classic, to the Stingray versions of the 1960's and early
1970's. And now all sleek and trimmed with lots of power, no more
chrome, retaining the hidden headlights and a much lower profile
for the 80's.
For consignment, we now present, from way back in 1987, a morsel of
Corvette history in the flesh, a Chevrolet Corvette! Drum roll
please....
Exterior
All clean deep blue painted fiberglass is seen on this exterior in
fair condition. Some dulling in the paint, some areas of paint
cracking and several inclusions have embedded themselves into this
paint. On back is some major scratching from battles lost with the
curb on the rear roll pan. A Greenwood Corvette aero package has
been mounted on to the bottom of this car and it includes extra
fairings for the rockers, and rear of the car, as well as the front
spoiler in black but sans the Greenwood nose. A rear spoiler in
body matching blue is on back and we look like we are ready to go
road racing. A black canvas convertible top is on and it presents
in very nice condition with a clear rear plastic window. 17-inch
black wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped with good condition
rubber.
Interior
Gray leather buckets grace the inside of this Vette. A digital
driver information system is seen on the square design dash, as
well as the 4-speed automatic transmission shifter in the console.
Power windows, power steering and a key fob remote access button
will get you into the rear storage area that has enough room to
haul "stuff". Carpeting appears in good condition but has faded
from its original gray to a lighter brown. Door panels are molded
vinyl and contain a central black actuator panel with locks and a
courtesy light. On the driver's side the upper sill panel is
becoming unglued and is moved away from the actual door just a bit.
The steering wheel is showing some paint rub off and is wrapped in
a leather covering. The original radio is now replaced by an
aftermarket JVC AM/FM/CD player. Directly above this is an
information panel that will illuminate any potential problems on
this screen when they arise. The top works flawlessly, and folds
neatly into a rear fiberglass cowling all neat and seamless.
Drivetrain
A 5.7 Liter electronic fuel injected V8 can be viewed within an
original engine bay with the flip of the hood. Bolted on back is
the 4-speed automatic 700R4 transmission. Keeping everything cool
is an all electric fan cooling system. Feeding the engine is EFI,
and on the back is a 2.73 axle.
Undercarriage
Reasonably clean and rust free all good underneath with an overall
light undercoating which has patinaed nicely. X-bracing shows and
ties the car together for extra stiffening. Suspension includes an
aluminum forged mono leaf spring and is seen on the front and rear.
Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and on the test track performed much like
a 1987 Corvette! I was nagged by a check engine light in the
previously described warning panel, the passenger headlight will
not flip up, also the power mirrors and wipers are also not
operating.
Overall a fairly clean Corvette with some extra Greenwood body
fairings and a rear spoiler that the consignor has enjoyed and is
now ready to move on. An exterior and interior that remains true to
the 'Vette legacy of America's Sports Car.
