Vehicle Description
STK 2906 1989 Porsche 944 S-2
The Porsche 944 was released to the European markets in November
1981. The launch of the 944 was billed as a 'brand-new Porsche' in
order to establish the merit of this front-engine Porsche. Sales of
the 944 model went through the roof and it is rightly considered to
be the financial savior of Porsche. The 944S2 Cabriolet model was
introduced to the US market in 1989. The manufacturing process for
the Cabriolet was a joint effort between Porsche engineering and
the independent German company, ASC Inc. Partially assembled
factory coupes were shipped to ASC where the top was removed and a
complete second floorpan was welded in for strength and rigidly.
The converted Cabriolets were then returned to the Porsche factory
for completion. It is said that Porsche exported a total of only 16
Cabriolets to the US in this first model year. This 3-owner 1989
944S2 is a great example of one of these rare Cabriolets. The
exterior has been refinished in vivid Mazda Soul Red and features
include fog lights, pop-up headlights, a hatch-mounted spoiler,
updated 968 rear fascia and manual convertible top. The interior is
upholstered in black leather with color-matched dash, door panels
and carpeting. Features include A/C (recently serviced), power
seats, power windows/locks, leather-wrapped wheel, full
instrumentation and an ATOTA AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo/navigation
system. The rear seat has been removed and the repurposed area is
now available for easy storage. The naturally aspired 3.0-liter
DOHC inline-four is believed to be the factory motor and is now
fitted with a 'Mega Squirt EFI Controller' system that can be
monitored on the ATOTA display screen. The 3.0 features
four-valves-per-cylinder and a free-flowing exhaust system. The
factory-rated output is 208 horsepower and 207 lb/ft of torque.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a rebuilt
five-speed manual transaxle. The 944S2 suspension platform features
front struts, shock tower supports, rear multi-link suspension,
variable-assist power steering and power disc brakes w/298mm
diameter rotors. Porsche Boxster BBS wheels mount 17" Cooper
performance radials. The owner has furnished a comprehensive
document listing service/dates for the last 7 years. This is truly
a Porsche 944S2 Cabriolet to enjoy everyday, especially those
'drop-top' days in the mountains or at the beach. ALL VEHICLES SOLD
