1963 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE
Car History
The Austin Healey Sprite was a car built for thirteen years from
1958 through 1971. The Such advertisements for them read "A car
that a Chap could keep in his bike shed".
The Sprite was announced to the press in Monte Carlo by the British
Motor Corporation on 20 May 1958, two days after that years Monaco
Grand Prix. It was intended to be a low-cost model that a chap
could keep in his bike shed, yet be the successor to the sporting
versions of the pre-war Austin Seven.
The 1963 Austin Healey Sprite, like what we have here at Adventure
Classics, was a low cost small convertible with a small engine that
was and is a true delight to drive.
Engine & Drivetrain
Our complete restoration has a 4-cylinder engine that cranks out
around 43 horsepower and is backed by a manual transmission that
makes shifting entertaining running through the gears.
The engine and engine compartment has a pleasing presentation as
everything looks as new as the day it was born, with the green
paint on the engine, Austin tags on the green valve cover,
carburation correct, and all the accessory and stock engine parts
looking stock too.
Interior
This Austin has been lovingly cared for and has been restored in
parts throughout its life. It comes with a like new black twin
bucket seat interior featuring, matching carpet, dash with all the
factory working gauges, Healey steering wheel, and floor mounted
shifter.
The soft top with side curtains all look great too.
Exterior
Our Austin Healy Sprite was designed by the Donald Healey Motor
Company, with production being undertaken at the MG factory at
Abingdon.
The body is covered in bright red paint that looks good from all
angles on the straight body lines. Chrome is nice and it also has
the luggage rack on the trunk.
The Healey rides on the correct grey painted steel wheels with
chrome center caps and blackwall tires, and purrs like a
kitten.
Conclusion
This 1963 Austin Healey Sprite we have here at Adventure Classics
