Vehicle Description
The Packard 11th series debuted in late 1933 for the 1934 model
year and was an evolution of the outgoing 10th series. New fenders
and other stylistic refinements gave it a fuller, more elegant
appearance, which many today's enthusiasts consider is the
quintessential Classic Era design. The Twelve returned as the
flagship model, with a wide array of coachwork and wheelbase
options to ensure exclusivity and customizable options. Unlike
Cadillac's overhead-valve V16 and V12 engines, Packard did not push
any particular technological boundaries, instead electing to work
toward ultimate refinement and quality. The glorious V12 engine was
all about turbine-smooth delivery of its 160 horsepower, paired
with superb steering and ride quality to make it a favorite with
owner/drivers. Performance is a strong suit, but in reality, the
11th Series V12 is a machine built for effortless progress in
superlative style. A standout among its peers, few automobiles of
the era could touch the Packard Twelve for its effortless
performance, high quality, and striking presence. It is with great
pleasure that we offer this 1934 Packard 1107 Coupe. This is one of
just 435 twelve-cylinder cars built in the eleventh series, and the
gorgeous coupe coachwork is among the rarest of the catalog body
styles. The fixed-roof coupe is a magnificent representation of the
11th series, and while the design is officially a factory effort,
the great Dietrich, Inc. had considerable influence on its shape.
Very few coupes survived the years unscathed as, unfortunately,
many were sacrificed for conversion into roadsters. This
magnificent example is a rare survivor and was delivered new to a
buyer from Toronto, Ontario. While the early history is not
documented, the coupe survived intact and eventually came into the
hands of noted Packard collector and marque expert. In the early
2000s, he entrusted marque experts Stone Barn Automobile
Restoration of Vienna, New Jersey, to perform a ground-up,
nut-and-bolt restoration for high-level concours competition. The
comprehensive project left no bolt unturned, and the results are
simply breathtaking. The paint, chrome, engine bay, and
undercarriage are all magnificently prepared, and every detail has
been tended to with faultless precision. The massive effort paid
off with a 2nd place award in the highly competitive Class C-3 at
the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Shortly after its debut
success on the eighteenth fairway at Pebble, it traded hands to a
private collector, and it has been beautifully maintained since
then. Finished in a magnificent color combination of deep blue over
sumptuous caramel brown leather, this Packard is a genuinely
breathtaking automobile. Minimal adornment allows the styling to
speak for itself, with understated accessories including dual
side-mount spares, chrome trumpet horns, chrome wire wheels, and
whitewall tires which add a perfect dash of brilliance to the
understated livery. The same quality and attention to detail abound
in the gorgeous leather trim, properly restored instruments,
switchgear, and lovely woodwork inside the cabin. Like the
exterior, the interior fittings are superbly refinished and
presented in superb condition. As the Pebble Beach award reflects,
the fit and finish are virtually flawless, with chrome plating,
panel fit, upholstery, and detailing that are beyond reproach. With
all of its cosmetic beauty, where this Packard truly shines is out
on the road. It is one of the finest driving examples of the type
we've encountered, feeling as we imagine it did the day it rolled
out of the showroom in 1934. From behind the wheel, you revel in
its precise gearchange, beautifully weighted steering, and
outstanding ride quality - all with nary a squeak or rattle. It is
an absolute joy to drive, with power, refinement, and precision
that belie its almost ninety years. Maintained in top form since
its restoration, this glorious Packard is still a worthy
centerpiece to virtually any collection. It offers style and
substance in abundance and is a serious contender for top honors in
a wide range of shows and concours events, yet it is entirely
capable of many miles of joyful motoring. Offers welcome and trades
