This modified 1974 K5 Blazer is one of the most desirable classic SUV’s.  It is a somewhat rare 2WD version with the fully removable hardtop offered through 1975.  This one has seen significant work and now offers a nearly 500hp big block, overdrive transmission, air ride suspension, custom interior, air conditioning, and much more.

The body has been repainted a burgundy metallic while the one-piece fiberglass top was done in silver.  It has also been de-badged and received a custom front grille.  The tailgate was smoothed and received some tasteful pinstriping.  It all results in a sleeker, smaller appearance than ordinary Blazers.  There are also aluminum Torq Thrust style wheels that look right at home.

The original 350ci engine was replaced with a very healthy 454ci big block.  This engine made 498hp on the dyno and runs on pump gas.  It sounds as good as it looks too.  The transmission was upgraded to a 700R4 automatic with overdrive.  There are power front disc brakes along with power steering which make for easy driving.  And of course there is a full air ride suspension with individual controls for front and rear, allowing you to dial in whatever look or ride you prefer.

The custom two-tone interior looks amazing, especially with the top off.  The seat covers, door panels, and side panels all share the same design.  The custom sound system is very well integrated with the amplifier, speakers, and subwoofer all nicely fitted.  The dash houses a set of aftermarket gauges along with a factory a/c arrangement.  There is also a tilt steering column and aftermarket steering wheel.  The power locks and power windows all work properly.  Same with the lights, horn, wipers, and neutral safety switch.  And yes, the modern R134a air conditioning blows cold.

The early Blazers continue to be very popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike.  They have a great look and are spacious and comfortable.  This example also adds a ton of great features that result in a fun, exciting ride.  Can’t you picture yourself and a few friends in this one, cruising the boulevard under the summer night sky?
