Dubbed the 'Ol Gray Mare by our client, this truck is a cool
vintage pickup that is easy on the eyes thanks to the timeless Ford
styling. Much like a mare on a farm, this truck was advertised by
Ford as a workhorse for a farm, and as The lowest priced farm
trucks on the market at the time. A work truck on a farm may not be
the best way to use this 'ol gray mare today, but it would make a
great addition to any vintage automobile collection. The truck has
been painted in a unique light gray color, which is not the factory
original color. Our client is not sure when the truck underwent the
color change, but like us, he liked the color and stuck with it
rather than having it repainted. One interesting item on the truck
that only eagle-eyed folks may notice at first is the fact that the
'front clip' is one piece of fiberglass. The hood leans forward
when opening, and there are not heavy metal fenders on the front.
Thanks to some careful preparation, the headlights, grille, and
bumper fit just as they would if the truck had the original metal
items. A wood slat bed has been added, and the original style
tailgate is held in the closed position using chains. Whitewall
tires wrapped around steel wheels including the side mounted spare
are in keeping with a period correct look for the exterior. Another
area where a classic look has been kept is the interior. The bench
seat has been covered in a combination of plaid vinyl and vinyl
that has a weathered look. The headliner and carpet are new and
finished in black. Seatbelts have been added as well as a little
pinstriping on the dashboard, otherwise it's a pretty standard
looking, very nicely kept Ford truck interior. Providing the
horsepower is a 302ci V8 pulled from a donor truck years ago, which
our client estimates has approximately 60k miles on it. Originally
the F100's came with either a 223ci inline-6, or a 292 Y-block V8.
One item that makes this truck a little easier to drive is power
steering. The engine bay is neatly finished and tidy. A 4bbl
carburetor and polished valve covers are other highlights. This is
a very nice truck that has classic Ford looks, an upgraded engine,
and a tidy interior. Make room in your stable for this 'Ol Gray
Mare. Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our main
