Vehicle Description
For 1966, BSA cut their model range down to six models, and
improved the entire line with modern 12V electrics and other
refinements. The Hornet was an all-thrills/no-frills bike designed
for off road and desert scrambles, negating the need for lighting
and road equipment. Bikes delivered to the US East Coast feature
high pipes as fitted to this example, while West Coast bikes had
low pipes, perhaps accounting for the different terrain. Power
comes from the energetic full-race Lightning engine, with 10.5:1
compression. In the lightweight, stripped down Hornet, it was an
absolutely thrilling bike to let loose on forest tracks or the
wide-open desert. This example was previously part of a large
collection of vintage bikes, where it was treated to a
well-detailed, high-quality restoration. The restoration has
matured while in the care of its current owner, and today is
ideally suited to freshen for show or regular enjoyment. Please
note this motorcycle has received a cursory mechanical check, and
while the engine is free, it has not been started during its time
in the Kleptz collection. It is offered as-is, requiring additional
sorting, and is sold on a bill of sale only. For additional details
