Vehicle Description
This 1951 Chrysler New Yorker station wagon is one of 251 produced
and, with its 131-inch wheelbase, is one of the longest ever
produced. Chrysler stretched nine extra inches out of the hood and
front fenders and mounted it on their limo frame. The original 331
HEMI and fluid-drive transmission were replaced with a 1957 a 392ci
dual-quad HEMI engine and push-button 3-speed automatic
transmission. The original interior remains and shows well with
nice gauges and wood as well as a stainless cargo area. This
station wagon cost $4,100 when new, making it the most expensive
wagon of its time. Chrysler discontinued the New Yorker in 1952 and
returned in 1953 and 1954 with a shorter version and, although
similar, they never matched the stately appearance of the 1951.
This wagon has power steering and power brakes and sports the spare
tire in a Continental kit. It rides on chrome spoke wheels and wide
whitewall tires.
