For Sale: 1970 Oldsmobile 442 in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

This is a real W-30 documented with original build sheet. It is #s matching. Loaded with options including factory a/c. 1970 is the most desirable to Olds collectors because it was the peak year for horsepower.

EXTERIOR: Gorgeous Sherwood green without a vinyl top. The white stripes really set it off. I call these the Lamborghini of muscle cars with the bold stripes, big scoops and a wing. The restoration is about 20 years old so the body has proven itself. It is straight and smooth. The original ram air hood fits real good, it does not have the typical stress cracks. The mirrors are correct for a 1970 Oldsmobile only. The paint is smooth and glossy. The W-30 stripes are correctly painted. The jambs are very clean. Weatherstrips and sill plates are nice. Up front the bumper, headlight bezels, eyebrows on the hood and fenders look new. The glass is real clear and all the stainless moldings are straight and shiny. Door handles look new. In back the bumper has been rechromed, taillights look new. It has a great stance, the wheels are restored beautifully. The BF Goodrich tires look like they have no miles.

INTERIOR: The pearl white is gorgeous against the green. It has new upholstery, headrests, door panels and armrests. The plastic seat trim and chrome was replaced. The headliner is in excellent shape, dome light works. Overall it is very tidy and unabused. Clean kick panels, inside the console, mesh rear shelf etc. It also has an abundance of options: rally pac gauges, tik tok tachometer, speed minder, tilt deluxe wheel, rear window defogger, Am-Fm with an 8-track. In between the seats is a console with the Hurst dual gate shifter. On the floor the carpets look new and it has reproduction Oldsmobile mats. Interior lights all seem to be working including in the glovebox and console. It has all it's original seat belts including the shoulder belts.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under that big air induction air cleaner is the #s matching W-30 455-370 horsepower. It has the correct aluminium intake, legendary F heads and original carb. Other features include factory air conditioning which is updated to 134 freon, power steering and power brakes. The booster is cadmium plated. The red inner fenders are unique to the W-30. It has reproduction GM hoses and clamps and spring clamp battery cables. The master cylinder, alternator, washer bottle look new. Everything appears proper and clean.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Somebody did a really excellent job detailing the trunk. It appears to have clean factory metal. I don't see any patches, the quarter panels appear to be the originals with no splices. It has a very high quality, durable spatter finish paint. The jambs are painted smooth and slick, the factory seams and pinch welds are visible. The weather strip, decals and correct trunk mat look like new. It has a restored matching wheel with an original Wide Oval tire for spare. The jack assembly is restored, the latches look new.

UNDERSIDE: Very proper, solid underside. Appears to have clean original metal with factory undercoat. It has the rally suspension which includes swaybars and boxed rear control arms. The front end has been gone through. New shocks. New dual exhaust with crossover pipe and correct trumpet tips. New fuel system including tank, lines and straps. It has disc brakes in front, e-brake cables are new. Bottom of the motor is clean, starter looks new. It has it's original vin # matching Turbo 400 automatic. The tag has the OW code which is unique to 1970 W-30 only. In back it has 12 bolt rear with 3.23 posi and an aluminium W-27 cover.

This car was professionally appraised in 2005 at 96/100 points. It won best of class at Olds show. Only 1,600 miles have been put on it since. Also included is an assembly manual, sales brochure, glovebox pouch with owner's manual, a pile of restoration receipts and of course the build sheet. This is the top dog Oldsmobile muscle car. It's full of options and good looks. Investment grade!
