Vehicle Description
Exceptional rarity, loaded with luxury, and a hardy performance
heart all come together on this 1985 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren. So
when you can get something this sharp, elegant, and distinct that
also remains exceptionally affordable, then you know you're not the
only one tempted by this drop-top.
The Mercury Capri was already intended to be the more elegant
version of the Ford Mustang, but ASC McLaren really took it to a
whole new level. ASC is known for its specialty craftsmanship, and
this is the Capri's only two-seat drop-top. They gave the
windshield a steeper angle and built a unique deck lid that gives
this the ideal proportions. And the special roof was far more like
a European sports car than this Capri's more mainstream Mustang
sibling. The lines are so stylish that most people couldn't help
but compare it to the Mercedes SL. But since this is a true
American, it loves to show off its red-blooded performance heart.
You easily see that with the Bright Red paint that loves to radiate
in the sunshine. Plus, the hood louvers, flared fenders, and
special McLaren-stamped gold lattice wheels really add to the
speedy attitude. And while the look is special, so is the car's
history. The McLaren part of the name has its roots with racer
Bruce McLaren. And because ASC is all about specialty creations,
you have serious rarity with this example. There were less than 260
of these convertibles made in 1985, and there was less than 1,000
coupes and convertible ASC McLaren Capris made over a three-year
run...that's it!
Because this is a special convertible, they made sure it would look
absolutely stylish with the top down. So the roof fully disappears
behind a hard tonneau to give this a roadster-like profile. The tan
leather upholstery looks terrific against the bright red, and as
you peek inside, you see a clean and well-sorted setup that shows
off more of this car's European influence. It's in details like the
special door panels with pull handles and real wood paneling on the
dash. And those Recaro seats feel absolutely awesome. It's loaded
with the best features, like power windows, power locks, cruise
control, tilt steering column, and an upgraded Kenwood
AM/FM/cassette stereo. Plus, it's always nice to have a convertible
with cold-blowing air conditioning.
As special as this car is inside and out, we love that under the
hood is a robust fuel-injected 5.0-liter. This was one of the best
V8s of the day and components are plentiful. That means this rare
ASC McLaren has nice power and is easy to maintain. In fact, you
can tell from the clean and complete condition that this one has
been given the respect it deserved. So while this powerplant has a
ton of easy upgrades available, we are quite happy to see this
classic still looking stock today. And you'll love taking this one
out on the road thanks to easy anytime driving features like power
steering, front disc brakes, sway bars front & rear, and four-speed
automatic transmission w/overdrive.
A true rare classic like this needs the right paperwork, and so the
sale also comes complete with the original window sticker, warranty
card, owner's manual, and service manuals. When you want a car that
you can show, drive, and always have a conversation piece, you know
it's hard to beat this affordable ASC McLaren. Call today!!!
