For Sale: 1955 Ford Fairlane in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1955 Ford Fairlane Victoria

An infamous designer from the 1950's once said the more chrome the more it sells. If this is indeed true, then this car is already set to go out the door it just came into! Ford designed to compete with what would be the Tri Five era from the bowtie competition. Ford designers were at the top of their game. Ford had Franklin Q. Hershey, who designed full-sized Fords from 1953 through 1957 and General Motors had Harley Earl. Mr. Hershey's resume included work for California coachbuilder Murphy, where he designed many bodies for Duesenberg and later put Silver Streaks on the Pontiac. Hershey, along with Design Chief George Walker, was responsible for a complete redesign of the 1955 Ford models.

For consignment a very nice example of plenty of chrome mixed with two tone paint, wrap around windshield, a swoop spear side trim, and a continental rear bumper. You'd better get down here as this example is going to fly off the shelf.

Exterior
Meticulously maintained red and white paint, push towards each other only to be held back by the side swoop spear for keeping the border between the two in check. Red is on the roof and this is a non basket handle version. We then switch to the white which covers the hood trunk and just below the belt line, then the red takes back over. All chrome is just gorgeous on this car with the extra safety bar on the front bumper protecting the pristine egg crate grille. Even the headlight visors are chromed. Nice surrounding window trimmings, side view mirrors, and the hood rocket plane ornament, also present in beautiful condition. In back, the jet age taillights look a lot like jet thrusters with a backup light just above emulating the rear fin. Also, one cannot go wrong with the wonderful continental rear bumper which snuggles up to the metal encased two tone spare covering. Throw on some fender skirts and we are going long and lean on the cruise up Main street, you head turner you!

Interior
Continuing the tradition of the swoop spear, the interior is not left out, especially on the door panels. Here we see more red and white vinyl, nice chromed trimmings and power window toggles. Red and white vinyl play within this space and the delineation is...chrome! Inside we see a leather interior in drive in style with red buttoned inserts and white bolsters. A split bench for the front and a full bench for the back. The front bench is power activated. The red and white continue on the dash with a simple arch for the speedo in front of the driver then Ford's round dial motif for controls takes over the center of the dash. A red metal dash top and white dash front fit in just swell with the seats. Red carpeting floods the floors and above is a nice tight factory looking white headliner...just pristine! Noted on the loaded front is A/C, AM/FM/CD, power brakes, power steering, power windows, and a power seat.

Drivetrain
Popping the hood, and as our consignor states, "meticulously maintained", and this may be an understatement. Within this showroom looking engine bay is all correctness with a beautiful red block 292 Thunderbird V8, topped with a single 2-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic on back. A 3.31 rear axle takes the power and spins the wheels. All beautifully resorted and shiny and clean.

Undercarriage
A full frame off restoration shows up underneath with an orange painted underside for the pressed steel portions and jet black frame and drivetrain parts. Not even a hint of road dirt under here where front independent coil springs and rear leaf springs reside. Along with this suspension are power disc brakes now upfront, and power drum brakes on back. Amazingly clean and pristine.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and on the test track performed swimmingly. No runs, drips, or mechanical errors during our drive. Just a bunch of head turning, and oooooohs and ahhhhhs. KEEP BACK 500 FEET!

Just a wonderful example from 1955 and giving the bowtie a run for their money, this beauty is a turnkey shower which can be taken securely on a long jaunt with no issues to worry about. Just a beautiful example sums it up.
