this Corvette 50th Anniversary hardtop model with the Z06 package,
including a 405-horsepower V-8 engine and with fewer than 8,000
actual miles, now available at MotoeXotica Classic Cars! Made in
General Motors? Bowling Green, Kentucky factory (VIN code 5) in
December 2002 and sold on 1/22/2004 at Sturgeon Chevrolet in
Licking Missouri, this model is dressed in Torch Red (code 70U) and
it looks ready to fulfill a variety of missions ? daily driver,
cruise night star, weekend getaway vehicle or extended road-tripper
for two people. The paint and trim are in overall excellent
original order, with solid and straight body, an extremely tidy
engine bay and cargo area. The battery appears new and the
body-colored bumpers match the rest of the exterior. This ?Vette
rolls on Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, size 265/40ZR17 in front and size
285/35ZR18 in back. Each tire is mounted on alloy wheels painted in
Warm Nickel Metallic. The wheels are in overall excellent order
while the tires are in good, original shape. Under the front-hinged
fiberglass hood is Chevy?s 5.7L, 16-valve OHV LS6 (VIN code S) V-8
engine. The LS6 shares its basic block architecture with the LS1
motor, along with other enhancements ? windows cast into the block
between cylinders; a larger and improved intake manifold; a Mass
Air Flow-sensor with higher flow; stiffer valve springs; a more
aggressive camshaft with higher lift and more duration; a 10.5:1
compression ratio; lighter, sodium-filled intake and exhaust valves
for better heat dissipation; and a revised oiling system better
aligned for high lateral acceleration. Starting with the 2002 model
year, power was increased to 405 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 400
lbs?ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. This model tips the scale at just
over 3,100 pounds so it?s faster than the average 2003 Corvette. To
improve handling and front-to-rear balance, the transmission was
moved backward to become part of an integrated, rear-mounted
transaxle, connected to the engine via torque tube. The Z06 model
was only available with the six-speed manual transmission, in this
case, a Tremec T-56 unit with Computer-aided Gear Shifting that
shifts from first to fourth gears under certain conditions. The
Corvette also has a limited-slip differential. Driver convenience
features are plentiful: heads-up display (HUD), dual-zone automatic
climate control, cruise control, variable-effort, power
rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with
anti-lock (ABS), power windows, power locks, power sideview
mirrors, power seats, tilt steering column and rear window
defroster. Safety and security devices include an anti-theft
system, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), dual front airbags, the
aforementioned brakes with ABS and safety stability control.
Inside, the black leather interior (code 19I) is in overall
excellent order. The sport bucket seats have embossed Z06s in the
headrests, black carpeting, headliner, and four-spoke,
leather-wrapped steering wheel are all in the same fantastic shape.
The inner door panels and instrument panel echo that condition,
too. The center console and leather-wrapped shift knob support the
lower mileage figure. This generation Corvette was the first to use
Balsa wood in its floorboards and the first to employ parallel
windshield wipers versus opposing wiper arms since 1953. It was
also the final generation to use pop-up headlamps, which had been a
Corvette hallmark since 1963. Chevrolet engineered several
modifications for the Z06 to put the increased power to its best
use, starting with the most structurally rigid bodystyle???the
hardtop or FRC (Fixed Roof Coup?). The new components added to the
Z06 included: uprated FE4 suspension, larger wheels and tires,
revised gearing ratios and functional brake cooling ducts. The Z06
is 38 lbs. lighter than a standard C5 hardtop due to weight-saving
measures such as a titanium exhaust system, thinner glass, lighter
wheels, non-EMT tires, reduced sound proofing, fixed rear radio
aerial and a lighter battery. A 50th Anniversary Edition (RPO Z25)
was offered during the 2003 model year to commemorate a
half-century of Corvette production. A new option for Corvette in
2003, the F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control Suspension was
standard on the 1SC-equipped Anniversary Edition vehicles. Special
("Warm Nickel Metallic") painted aluminum wheels, embroidered
upholstery trim and badges completed the Anniversary Edition
package. Also included were convenience options offered on the
upscale Corvette models, such as the head-up display. Competition
to this Corvette in 2003 included Aston Martin?s DB7, Ferrari?s 360
Modena, Maserati?s Coupe GT and Porsche?s 911 GT3. If you?re
looking for a super low mileage Corvette Z06 that?s on the verge of
becoming a classic yet can more than hold its own most any road,
this 2003 Z06 Hardtop is more than worth your time to view. Stop by
