1949 Packard Super Eight
Car History
Right after WWII, buyers wanted oversized family sedans to haul
them and the kids around in a stylish and comfortable car, the 1949
Packard filled the bill as it was a roomy, long wheel-base, luxury
vehicle.
We have a stunning 1949 Packard Super Eight here at Adventure
Classics that is powered by what the owner told us was the original
327 cubic inch, inline 8 cylinder engine, turning out 145
horsepower, and having a "Super" restoration on it too.
Engine & Drivetrain
The entire car has been gone thru front to rear including the
original 327 cubic inch, inline 8 cylinder engine, turning out 145
horsepower. That engine was the larger of the two eight-cylinder
luxury automobiles produced in Detroit, Michigan.
This powerplant It has been painted the correct green as it sits in
a very detailed, clean, and factory looking engine compartment and
is mated to a column-shifted 3-speed manual overdrive transmission
that gives it the correct look, feel, and performance as it had in
1949.
Interior
Driver interior and convenience features of our Packard include the
restored front and rear bench seats covered in tan with matching
light tan carpet, headliner, and floor mats, stunning dash with its
wood inserts, factory gauges, factory Philco AM radio, and added
front and rear seatbelts, column-mounted shifter, and ivory
controls.
Look in the trunk and you will even find an original wide-whitewall
Firestone tire, wheel, and jack.
Exterior
Our Packard has the great sleek black paint job covering the Briggs
bodywork, windshied sunvisor, and is contrasted by the wraparound
chrome bumpers with bumper guards, a pair of fog lights, wraparound
grille, two full-length trim strips, rear fender skirts, and the
Goddess of Speed on the hood.
The 49 rolls on wide whitewalls with each tire is mounted on a
chrome wire wheel topped by a factory chrome center.
Conclusion
Packard had one of the most recognized advertising slogans in the
automotive industry. "Ask the Man who Owns One."
