Vehicle Description
1956 Ford Crown Victoria
Any time we get stunning 50s era Detroit metal into our Classic
Auto Mall showroom, it tends to attract a lot of attention and
usually doesn't stick around very long. This is a 1956 Ford
Fairlane Crown Victoria that has been painstakingly restored to its
top of the Ford line status. It's the perfect car for anyone who
wants an accurate, exceptionally well-done restoration for half the
price of doing it themselves.
There is 50's cool then there is 50's AWESOME and this car
definitely fits the latter. The beneficiary of a restoration
starting with what was a show car for 20 years that is now even
better! This classic is dripping with all the trappings one would
expect from a luxury car of that era...Continental kit rear bumper,
in bumper exhaust, factory front and rear bumper guards, fender
skirts, swoop spears and the list goes on and on. This terrific
example has won multiple prestigious AACA awards from 2005 to 2016
including a Junior, Senior and Preservation award.
Exterior
First stripped down to bare metal then any slight rust removal was
performed. Next it was bathed in two tone factory colors of
Meadowmist Green and Colonial white. It is broken up only by the
polished stainless of the now famous 'Fairlane strip' which flows
gracefully from the top of the front fenders down the side of the
car and hits the taillights mid fender. Centered on the 'Fairlane
strip' in the middle of the doors are great looking Ford emblems
with gold and silver "Crown Victoria" badges. Along the rocker
panels of the car spotless stainless trim highlights pronounced
rear fender skirts. Perfect glass that is in excellent shape all
around is accented by the Crown Victoria exclusive chrome 'basket
handle' roof piece and stainless window trim. Also, on top a
plastic tinted see through top that was futuristic, (but also
hot!), during this era of the Fairlane. Out back, the jet-age
taillight lenses look new and the trunk is backed by a continental
bumper complete with metal enclosed spare tire. Details abound,
with a unique finned radio antenna mounted on the trunk, large
bumper guards just to throw in some extra chrome, lock cylinder
covers all around and an optional combination dual spotlights and
rear-view mirrors mounted on both doors. Chromed wire wheels with
central dish Ford badged hubs wrapped in wide white rubber is seen
on all 4 corners.
Interior
Looking like it was plucked right out of a Silk City Dining Car,
the beautiful two tone mint green combo, as well as all the
aesthetics that come with the mid 50's. The door panels which mimic
the "Fairlane Strip" are dark green up top, and light green
embossed subway tile pattern on the bottom. Climb in and you'll be
surrounded by mint green broadcloth inserts and ultra-wide light
green vinyl bolsters which are on front and back benches. The back
bench is noteworthy as it has an armrest inserted and above is
framed by a multiple stepped "V" with the Ford logo inside...just
beautifully cool in its own way. These seats are fronted by a
perfect dash also in two tone, with all correct instruments, a
Kleenex dispenser also hangs below the dash and on the floor miles
of thick impeccable green carpeting. The headliner is just as
impressive on the inside with the stainless basket handle breaking
it up and in light green vinyl along with its smoked plastic front
portion framed by the basket handle.
Drivetrain
A Ford Thunderbird 292ci V8 is sitting in a perfectly restored
engine bay and is looking very sharp in this black environment. No
corrosion, not even dust is in here. A red painted block,
Thunderbird badged valve covers, and a silver air cleaner cover
with a 4-barrel carburetor underneath. All correct bolt ons sitting
on this engine. On back is a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic
transmission.
Undercarriage
Very clean and definitely rust free environment and not even any
road dirt, making me suspect this car is trailered, although I did
not see it come in. Independent coil springs for the front
suspension, and leaf springs for the rear. Drum brakes are on all 4
corners. A cherry bomb exhaust system is now funneling spent gases
to the rear through the bumper.
If you are into 50's ultimate cool, with a smattering of creature
comforts, diner like interior, and plenty of stainless shine, then
this is definitely worth a look. In the time this writer has spent
at Classic Auto Mall, I have only seen a few seen a basket handle
Crown Vics, and is truly a sight to behold. Add the Fairlane swoop,
and in two tone classic colors you are in DA, (the hairstyle "ducks
ass"), with a cigarette pack rolled into your sleeve heaven. Wop
bop a loo bop a lop bam boom.....Tutti frutti, oh rootie!
