Helmut Werner Bönsch, BMW's director of product planning, and Alex von Falkenhausen, designer of the M10 engine, each had a two-litre engine installed in a 1600-2 for their respective personal use. When they realized they had both made the same modification to their own cars, they prepared a joint proposal to BMW's board to manufacture a two-litre version of the 1600-2. In 1971, the coupe was switched from the 1.6 L engine to the 2.0 L engine to become the 2002 sport coupe. This is a nice clean example of a 1976 BMW 2002 with only 48,950 miles. It runs and drives great, great performance, sporty, dependable and a sound investment. It is equipped with the original motor, 4 speed and a factory sun roof. It has had only one re-spray to its original Baikal Met with Lt. Biscuit interior, NO RUST just a clean straight European sports car. We have receipts for $20,000 + rebuilt motor, just passed California smog. and more. It has a clean California title. #2744517 Now on display at the home of “over the top cars” CHECKERED FLAG CLASSICS 7743 MONTEREY ST GILROY, 408-847-8788 or 888-625-2774, sold as-is, California buyers are responsible for sales tax and license fees.
