The early VW Beetles are highly sought after because they represent
the most pure form the of model with the finely shaped front
fenders, split rear window and beautifully simple elegance of the
interior. During mid-1952 Volkswagen changed the design of the
Beetle replacing the rear split window with an oval shaped window.
There was a five month cross over in production beginning in
October of 1952 where Beetles were produced with a split window
body while possessing an updated dashboard as well as the creature
comforts of the upcoming oval window cars. Cars produced during
this five month crossover have since been dubbed as "Zwitters"
which is the German word for hermaphrodite meaning that these cars
were part oval and part split. This particular example has many
desirable options including "mud scrappers" mounted on the running
boards, working radio, combination spotlight/rear view mirror,
porcelain ash tray and flower vase. The quality of the car and
restoration is very good and would be very competitive in a car
show environment. This car drives great and will stop traffic!
This gorgeous car is exempt from California smog certification and
comes with a clean title.
