Vehicle Description
1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible
Why This Car Is Special
The early 60's saw the rise of drag-strips and circle track racing
and American auto manufacturers were finding out that the more
cubic inches and pure horsepower they could put is muscle cars, the
more they would win on the racetrack and the street, hence the more
of these cars they could sell.
We have a beautifully restored 1963 Galaxie 500 2dr Sports
Convertible here at Skyway Classics with potent 406 cubic inch
engine under the hood that made these factory muscle cars before
there were muscle cars.
Cars like this 1963 Galaxie 500XL are why Ford was dominating on
the NASCAR circuits. Nicely finished in traditional Corinthian
White with a gorgeous red vinyl interior, it's an upscale cruiser
that can still hand out beatings on the street.
Mechanical
As mentioned, this engine is a 406 cubic inch V8 that not only
makes all the right sounds and amazing power but has updates as
well as dress-up items too. Let's start with one of the ultimate
early '60s powerplant if you're a Ford fan, it is both muscular and
refined, making the performance seem almost effortless.
There's a chrome air cleaner with correct "406 High Performance"
decal, but underneath it is a FAST Tune-able FI unit that settles
into an great idle with only a hint of the cam inside burbling
through the dual exhaust system.
It is dressed in chrome Thunderbird valve covers, has power
steering and brakes, air conditioning, performance ignition system
including the distributor and spark plug wires, chrome radiator
shroud, and it sits in a very period correct clean, painted, and
detailed engine compartment.
The automatic transmission shifts through the gears well as the
entire car feels robust and sturdy with the power going back to the
9-inch rear end.
It's an easy highway cruiser too as it rides on white-letter Cooper
Cobra GT Radials mounted on period correct Cragar SS mag
wheels.
Interior
The deeply pleated red bench seat interior is equally nice. The
driver's compartment looks as new including the carpets,
chrome-accented red door panels, sporty black steering wheel, dash
with the factory gauges, AM/FM radio, nice stainless trim, air
conditioning, and black Galaxie floor mats.
This is a gentleman's hot rod indeed and it shows even in the trunk
that is highly authentic with a mat, full-sized spare, and a
correct jack assembly.
Exterior
Our Ford is painted in Ford Corinthian White and looks just as much
of a sleeper car today as it would have back then. Ford gave this
car great styling with crisp lines and those big, round taillights
that reflected the '60s enthusiasm for the jet age.
Professional workmanship on the paint job shows and is complemented
by the trim in excellent condition as well as the bumpers, emblems,
406 badges, and the black convertible power top.
Conclusion
This white 1963 Galaxie 500 2dr we have here at Skyway Classics
with its big block 406 power and bright red interior is a knockout
today and would have been one of the fastest Fords available in
back when it was new.
