The 991.2's new 4.0-liter engine was derived from the GT3 Cup cars and produces 500hp to match the output of the 991.1 GT3 RS, thanks in part to a new crankshaft and valve gear. Extensive changes were made to the engine allowing a 9,000 rpm redline from the 4.0-liter flat-six engine. Porsche's focus was on reducing internal friction to improve throttle response. Compared to the 991.1, the rear spoiler was higher and located further back to be more effective. Further increasing its track-day credentials are active engine mounts, rear-axle steering, and a limited-slip differential, all offered as standard equipment.
