from the 1980s are becoming harder to find and those with a manual
transmission are even rarer. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to
offer this overall original and clean 1987 Nissan 300ZX. Just 1,997
300ZXs were made in this car?s paint and interior color combination
and this Z31 has had the same local owner for the past 27 years
with full service documentation by Franklin Nissan/Datsun
Specialities here in St. Louis, Missouri. Finished in Super White
(code 326), the car?s paint and trim are in overall excellent
condition but there is a minor blemish in the roof on the driver?s
side. The body is straight and solid and the body-colored bumpers
are in very good order, but the left front fog light is inoperable.
The cargo area behind the seats is also very clean. This car rolls
on Goodyear Assurance radials, size 215/60R15 at every corner. Each
tire is mounted on a factory alloy wheel. The alloys are in good,
original order. Under the hood is a 3.0L SOHC V-6 engine (code
VG30E) with electronic fuel injection. The engine?s dance partner
is a five-speed manual transmission (code FS5W71C). Driver
conveniences include air-conditioning, power steering, power
brakes, cruise control and power windows. Inside, the car has a red
cloth interior (code A). The bucket seats are in great shape while
the matching carpet and headliner in are satisfactory order. The
red instrument panel looks good while the inner door panels are in
good, original order. The console-mounted shift lever is in great
shape and there?s a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with cassette deck. North
America was the main market for the 300ZX, as for previous
generations of the Z-car. It was introduced to the United States in
October 1983, along with the remainder of Nissan's 1984 model year
lineup. By now the ?Datsun? nameplate had been completely retired
in North America. Over 70,000 units were sold in North America in
1985 alone. There were two trim models available: GL, and GLL. The
new V-6 single overhead cam engine was available as a naturally
aspirated VG30E. The Z31 chassis was based on the 280ZX. Although
the newer chassis had the same wheelbase and MacPherson
strut/semi-trailing arm independent suspension, it handled and
accelerated better than the 280ZX it replaced. Nineteen
eighty-seven through 1989 versions are known as the Kouki models
and have the more desirable tail lights and bumpers. The Z31 body
was slightly restyled in 1986 with the addition of side skirts,
flared fenders, and 16-inch wheels (turbo models only). Many black
plastic trim pieces were also painted to match the body color, and
the hood scoop was removed. The car was given a final makeover in
1987 that included more aerodynamic bumpers, fog lamps within the
front air dam, and 9004 bulb-based headlamps that replaced the
outdated sealed beam headlights. The 300ZX-titled reflector in the
rear was updated to a narrow set of taillights running the entire
width of the car and an LED third brake light on top of the rear
hatch. This was the first car in history to have the central brake
light with LED, in 1987 model year, made by Stanley Electric.
Competition to this Nissan in 1987 included Audi?s Quattro,
Chevrolet?s Corvette, Lotus? Esprit, Mazda?s RX-7, Mitsubishi?s
Starion, Porsche?s 911 and Toyota?s Supra. If you remember these
cars when they were new and always wanted one or if you?re ready
for another one, you should stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to
check out this Z-car for yourself. VIN: JN1HZ14S2HX210065? This car
